HiFiMAN HE-5LE Bass distortion

When i EQ these for more bass they tend to distort, i'm talking only a +4db increase in the bass range, is that normal for planars or is it a sign of the amp running out of power?

 

Running a Maverick TubeMagic D1 that outputs upto 1w per channel.

Sounds like the music is actually distorting. A +4db increase is a huge amount, especially if you are listening to modern music mastered in the modern style.

 

Try to leave the bass range alone and instead drop the mids and highs by -4db. Should solve your problem.
