Wedding march alternatives............

Let's assume Mendelssohn and Pachelbel are outlawed.

What do you walk the isle to instead?

Campy fun, I would end it to the intro of Hans Zimmer's You're So Cool.

Let us also assume nuptials will not be held in a catholic church where marriage services linger, drag and depress for 6 to 10 hours. wink.gif

How about a Schoenberg tone poem?

Maybe have someone in a black leotard perform an interpretative dance, too.

Personally, i am unfortunately totally ignorant to the wedding culture. I am somewhat embarrassed to say that I have never been married nor I have ever  attended a wedding ceremony. I have no idea what goes with what and what music is normal. So I have no input based on experience.

That being said, if I were to create something somewhat original, I think some type of grand church organ music is good. Something big with bass. Grand church organs in Europe have a nice bass and sounds wonderful. Also, a type of music with royal trumpets is good too with the organ. I personally would hire a classical style composer to create the original composition. Yes, there are modern composers out there who compose music in the style of classical music. This is true. So an original composition of large church organ and trumpet music would be on order.

Slightly off the subject, I would also add visuals. I would add a release of wild doves and a torch lighting ceremony where a runner would run from a few miles away and carry a torch and light a large fire from his torch to add to the music. IMO, this would be a wonderful wedding and hopefully mine.

Verklärte Nacht comes with a rather, umm, intriging subtext.

But seriously, here is a sweet one:

Or if you prefer something less opaque, "Never-ending Road" by Loreena McKennitt hits the right spot.

Some great suggestions here but I think my favorite wedding song will always be Paul Stookey's, there is Love.

Krzyszgnast Johann Goischment (1929-present) is a revered experimental composer. Born to farmers in Budapest, he was quickly discovered to have severe schizophrenia. At age fifteen, he killed five people in a drunken bar brawl. He was promptly jailed, and while in prison, he began to compose music in his head, inspired by composers such as Bartok and Stravinsky. Due to poor prison behavior, such as mauling fellow inmates during a schizophrenic episode in which he believed himself to be a bear, he was not released from prison until 2003. Eager to share his musical creations with the world, he painstakingly transposed every single note to create several bizarre yet stunning opuses. Here is an electronic excerpt of his crowning masterwork, the four hour piece Shudders. Although Goischment's music still remains unknown to most, it has the attention of notable composers such as Krzysztof Penderecki, Ennio Morricone and Philip Glass, who described Shudders as "a breathtaking tone poem...I literally could not speak for two days after hearing it. It would say too little to call Goischment the most uncompromising musical artist of his generation...in fact, such musical prowess has not been heard since the time of, well, Beethoven."
