"I don't love anything at first listen" syndrom - Page 2

Music is complex with various emotions, especially when you encounter various types of music. I don't think the words of like or love always fits the description of music. For me, a lot of good music comes in the form of wonder, fascination or enchantment for the lack of better words.

This is why I love radio. I happen to love driving to a different city and picking odd radio stations with a different play list and they play something that I have never heard and depending on my mood or even time of day, it can strike a different emotion that touches my soul.

I remember hearing one of Handel's choral works at around midnight for the first time on a classical music station and it was so inspirational and beautiful. I actually loved it and got it right away. I even bought the CD a few days later. Or if I am in a melancholy mood and the right mellow jazz tune is playing and it is my first time hearing it, it can be a revelation.

Perhaps, I'm different. The kind of music I seem less interested in is music that I grew up with. I generally do not listen to music I loved in high school like a lot of people. I used to listen to a lot of these classic rock bands but when I hear these familiar songs on the radio, I am actually bored unless if it is a song from an artist that I like and I haven't heard it before. I seem more thrilled with unfamiliar music. I also play an instrument too so maybe this is a factor in my way of thinking. It is common for many musicians to be interested in new material because it seems more fun to them.

But getting back on to the topic, old songs that are wonderful are still great. They are like old friends that you always love.

same position as OP.

But in time I learned to recognise certain things in music I know to have a big chance of growing on me. Still, some records continue to grow, some not.

Hehe i'm the same way, so i make sure not to judge an album on first listen, it's funny how you will be like "meh" to an album and later it's one of your favorites!

I suspect more of the same now that i want to discover new genres because of good headphones.

This happened to me with Arcade Fire's Funeral. It was very "meh" to me when I first listened to it, then after a few years I tried it out again and for some bizarre reason, it grew on me quickly and is now one of my favorite all-time records.
