Editor for mp3

My 2005 Apple iBook died last week and I am about to buy a PC laptop (probably Acer AS5750 with Win7 64bit) in the next few days. 

 

I need a very basic mp3 editor/trimmer.  It needs to have fading.

 

Any other advice for a Apple to PC switcher re: software in general would be very much appreciated.  I see that Foobar2000 is really popular as the audio player of choice.

Audacity.  And yes, foobar for playback.
