I saw the Beyer COP review...lol....sorry but I failed and bought/returned those pieces of over rated_____. Ya see how group think and youtube reviews can push total craa_!!

I put it on the bassy list because it is bassy...craptastical hollow cardboard box resonating crappage.    In my very humble opinion....very humble:D

yeah that review was old!!!

I wrote that when I was sooo enamored with the idea of using them for everything and when I bought them as only my second pair of $200+ headphones I was extremely upset. So much so that I wrote the review despite feeling like a total vulnerable noob.

But going back and reading it I still think it was crap so I left it there.

If and when I review it it will be later on. I have to review something else first and I just mailed them off for a fellow to try out.

Not too bad, 411€ only + shipping/customs. Wonder if amazon.jp sends to rest of the world though. Might wait for the new pads first to see how they change the sound as the pads do seem a bit lackluster.

My chick has reached her limit with my time spent listening to headphones on "our" time

Instead of doing this..

We do this

not my pic...but you get the picture

It will be far more difficult to make time from next week so I pushed my luck and went out today and tried on a bunch and compared with my 77 (the sz2000 stay home until tuned)  and I still am not finding what I consider cannons but am discovering that I have an affinity for Denon and JVC.

The Urban Raver were the hardest I heard slam besides "my" reference. I also heard the Skullcandy hesh 2 the Sony MDR X10 and Pioneer Steez.

All added to the list. The MDR X10 sounded better than last time with a flat eq.

Time for BBQ's Boxing Bungee jumping and some parasailing. I'll keep on working the Wiki so submit anything overlooked or new to the market please:D

I've noticed that eastern audio shops in places like Hong Kong and Japan tend to put their merchandise out on display for demo-ing a lot more often than western places.

They have dozens plugged into Audio "Hubs" that unfortunately are usually playing elevator music. My portable over the neck amp rig is really handy in letting me unjack the plugs and jack them into my setup for a direct comparison to my headphones. The day I heard the 55's while i was wearing my Beats was a very epic moment. I was horrified.  It all led me to being the proud owner of 2 cannons though.

Having a portable amp is really huge. Without an amp the 55's woulda been over the ear 50mm XB's...with an amp they were not. They were much more. You gotta be a risk taker and sadly I take advantage of the fact that most Japanese sales staff will not stop me. They have the very expensive cans routed to a receiver/hub behind the counter or sometimes with a hex locked plug. I don't take pictures in shops as it is an odd attention getter. I get attention when I touch 50,000 + yen cans...that's fine. Taking pics of em greatly decreases my chances of touching the plug so that's not fine.

I would recommend most folks getting an amp like an e12 (for example) before spending on headphones. Sounds odd perhaps but correctly and fully evaluating cans without an amp seems impossible so I'd say get a 150 buck amp before looking toward 300 buck cans

I wholeheartedly agree with this statement. Many of the hubs that headphones are plugged in to are noisy, play low-resolution music and they severely underpower the cans they are attached to. A proper amp is required for good evaluation of sound quality.

Yep. I hate American superstores. They only let you try out 2-3 headphone brands... And those headphone brands are usually beats, Bose, skullcandy, or sol republic... frown.gif its kinda sad that that's what the American public has to go off of for comparison. I'm the only person I know who even knows what a headphone amp is... Other than the people I told, that is.

I think I'm going to ask my parents to take a "vacation" in Japan sometime.... Heh. Better bring a big wallet with...

I personaly don't see why you need a headphone amp if they are plenty loud with one. I'd probably blow my ears if I had one.

I don't know if I've ever seen portable amps at Best Buy.
