Sent my D2k off yesterday for Back of Driver Only Mods and Lawton Pads, I'm confident in Orge's statement that sonically the Lawton and Alpha Pads seem to be on par, with one being more comfy and isolating better ect... ect...

Don't know about ES10 sound signature.

Price (normally):

ES10>M100>Q40

Can you elaborate on this?

From my visual understanding, M100 Highs=Lows>Mids, Q40 Lows>Mids=Highs ?

Looking to get a pair for my portable setup and these 2 seem to fit my price range the best for "basshead". I use DT770 250ohm at home.

What about recommendations for a portable amp for Q40/M100? It'll be used with an iPod classi, so will look into a LOC as well.

Yes. The M100 has a V-shaped sound signature, the Q40 has emphasized bass. Get the one that is the best compromise for your current needs.

As for the amp, without knowing your budget I can suggest the C&C BH2 and JDS Labs C5 as preliminary recommendations as both are fairly solid amps with a bass switch which I assume you want since you're posting here wink.gif

Thanks for the explanation, and yes, those two are pretty much my budget area. And again yes, super basshead ;). Much appreciated!

Sounds amazing with Ultrasone Pro 900. Some nice deep bass.

I've read somewhere, that the Q40 is prone to sibilance - did you experience that?
Did you have to possibility to compare them to the HD380 - from description they seem pretty close (bass emphasize, neutral bass, treble)?

I've only compared the Q40 and M100 once using the DX50 > Apex Glacier combo. Using that combo, all flaws in bad recordings, especially piercing treble, are exposed in all their horrible glory; so I didn't notice any sibilance that is the fault of either of those cans. I've also never heard the HD380, sorry :o

Hi there, I'm annokill!

Some might have seen my name Before on gaming/gfx fora.
Or in game on the ps3... Well you'll likely not have seen me Before, but Incase you did, I'm the same person.
Psn is Annokill ( what a shock! 😱 ) i play mw2/3 and Counterstrike Global Offensive ( CS:GO )
Don't hesitate to add me

Okay so i introduced myself... Well yeah I Also like music A LOT but if I did not I wouldn't be here, right?

So i need help...

Im searching for a closed headphone... Open is a no go,
People I live with don't need to be bothered with my music and I also like closed over open.

The real question though, is Wich headphone is the best to listen hardstyle with?

I mean, I've read Many Many Many reviews about the m50 and just about when I thought, hey Lets order it, I read a Guy's comment saying they lack bass... So hardstyle you can already tell im a basshead. But i want a solid punchy bass ( like the beats pro ) and a clear overall sound. Like treble and mids.

I was thinking about the beats pro, yeah overpriced indeed, but I have a serious demand of stylishness.

The real question remains, Wich headphones do have the same amount / quality ( and preferable better quality ) than the pro's?

( Max price is about 300euros, eg 500dollars )

Well I'm probably the biggest Hardstyle fan on this forum I get the feeling of. IMO the M-Audio Q40 has a Hardstyle optimized sound; punchy impactful bass, especially when amped/bass boosted, especially with digiZoid ZO2.1 that I'm using (ZO3 will be launching very soon) and the leads and screeches/hi-hats etc all sound balanced, the bass goes slightly higher which is how I want it with hardstyle but the mids and highs are very well balanced, it sounds like how I expected it to be live, not too sparkly not muddy, just realistic. The sound signature is also more "in-your-face" which leads to more engaging listen which hardstyle is about. I really get the feeling I have to "dance" to the music, tapping my foot, nodding my head, singing along with vocal based tracks etc.

M-Audio Q40 may be cheap but it scales well with amp and like I said I really think it has a Hardstyle optimized sound, I think only going to headphones like Ultrasone Signature DJs, Dido Perfect Sound D901 that is in the 800€ range or so will grant a noticeable upgrade for this genre, get Q40 + a nice amp.

Well I was also going to recommend the new Sennheiser HD7 and 8, these seems to also have a fitting sound signature but I've not heard either of them myself but on the descriptions of them so far it sounds like a good match, I'm watching the thread constantly, just have to figure out which of the 7 or 8 has a more fitting sound for my personal taste and I might give it a go.

But the problem with these new Sennheiser DJ headphones is that the impedance is fairly high at 95 ohms, at least for an iPhone. Q40 has sufficient volume even from my lowcost Android phone at like 60~75% (silent environment though) and I still feel it sounds fairly nice, not ideal but not bad.
