Yeah I agree!  But against the UE6000 (which I'm pretty sure have an amp/bass boost inside) and XB500, it's a tough battle

This sounds like something that interests me greatly.

How does the comfort compare?

(BTW, just pulled the trigger on a Head-direct EF1)!!

With the active NC turned on, these have quite a bit of bass. I'm comparing them to a pair of V-Moda M100's (with XL pads), Sony XB500's, and JVC S500's.

The track I'm using is the album version of "Dear Boy" by Avicii (on True). At about the 3:30 mark there's a huge bass drop, not hard but it goes down pretty far. The V-Moda's, out of that list, are probably the least bassy. They can't chase it as far down. I'm actually kind of disappointed in the bass quantity/quality compared to these other ones.  The UE6000s with power on at least match the famed XB500's. And they don't sound as dark as the XB500's. In passive mode they do ok, but of course the XB500 comes out on top. They still sound much darker than the UE6000's though.

I definitely prefer the UE6000 over the XB500 in active in bass quality/quantity and overall SQ, not sure about passive yet.

Wow yeah, these in active mode are pretty awesome.  Just as much if not more bass than the XB500's.

iPhone 4 source, C&C BH amp, pure copper 30pin connector

Yea I'm liking me UE 6000 as well

And with regard to Driver Size... the ONE place where it matters the MOST is with bass. A 50 mm driver can push more than a 40m, so with sub bass, that bigger 50mm driver is going to have a more vicsersal sub bass [if it's tuned right ofc]

So my BIGGER is bETTER fixation is from being a bass head, DEEPER bass is better out of a BIGGER driver just wish I could try the XB 1000

If driver size is true...do you think any other iem beats the xb90ex in terms of sub bass with a MASSIVE 16mm driver lol

Look into the Astrotec AX60. Incredible bass. Mid-bass and Sub-bass are just ridiculous..

I'm sure to a point, this is true. Design has something to do with it, but nothing beats mm's.

It's like the old saying with cars, "nothing beats cubic inches". Very true. A 350 v8 "in general" will always have more potential horsepower than a 2.0l honda engine. Sure, you can use forced induction, etc on the 2.0l, but you can also do that to the v8. But, there are some 350's (like truck motors) that really aren't designed for peak horsepower. So, yes, cubic inches matter, but design will also have an effect.

Aren't the XB90's considered some of the bassiest IEM's? That's what I want next lol

Not always. A 545HP Nissan GTR with a 3.8L engine can demolish the 630HP 6.2L Zr1 and a 640HP 8.4L SRT Viper wink.gif

Notice how I said "in general". Also, I was referring to straight horsepower if you read closely. So actually you helped prove my point re: horsepower in the larger engines being greater

Please guys lets not turn this into a gtr and corvette flame war...after all the new corvettec7 already beats the gtr in many other aspects such as braking and skidpad yet costs 1/2 the price lol...and thats the BASE Model

I think that bigger drivers in headphones may beat the smaller ones if you go into the higher end of headphones...

For the same price, i think that you will find about the same amount of performance... Just in different areas.

This changes as the price goes up in my mind simply as i feel the better tech can use the larger driver to its 'full potential'.

do not compare IEMS to Full Size Headphones, it's a different kind of bass all together

and were talking purely horse power, not full on integration of said horse power. As others have said for PURE SUB BASS slam, same with horse power, you need bigger drivers. Now that said, I lead to the Sony XB 700 and 1000... granted both are a little flabby at times, but that 70mm driver in the XB 1000 with a proper tuneing could proably blow ur mind right out of your ears :3

Pretty sure Audeze [how on earth do you pronouce that... I've been calling it A zuede for like forever] isn't using a driver smaller than 50mm

well the only Ultrasone headphone i have heard is the HFI-580. I liked it but the treble was a bit too much.

Otherwise, never heard any Denon/Fostex headphone.
