Kidding, bro! You're still welcome in the Basshead Club so long as you keep your XB700. biggrin.gif Enjoy your new cans!

Ok, I am envious. But damn, that's a fine purchase. I'm sure you're going to enjoy them. If not, you can always approach Craigster for an RMA. biggrin.gif

Ha! I posted in the Sig DJ thread that Craig had made another sale!  I went back and read the whole Signature DJ thread and it was kind of funny watching Craigster's journey to finally owning a set of these. He must have talked himself in and out of it about five times. biggrin.gif

Would it be idiotic to get the sig dj and not have an amp?

I might have enough for it but def not for any kind of sophisticated amp, maybe fiio E17.

They better. I can't always use my desktop amp and I'm counting on my E17 to push them. I'm pretty sure it will do it with no problem though. It was able to push my HE400s and even my 500s to very reasonable volume levels. Didn't sound too bad at all and the built-in EQ is a very nice feature. I'm crazy about my little E17. One of the better "bangs for the buck" around here in my opinion. Certainly enough to keep you going until you can get a more powerful Desktop Amp. Keep in mind you can get a pretty nice Desktop Amp for about the same money (actually cheaper) from Schiit. So that's an option too.

Works great without but I'd recommend getting one sooner or later. I used them some before getting o2 and odac.

+1  It's a big plus that the Sig DJ has features that make it portable-friendly such as low impedance and an included single-button smartphone cable.  I use portably with Iphone 4 + V-Moda Vamp.

LOL, that sums up my buying process for the Sig DJ.  After I convinced myself, the real challenge was convincing my wife.  She is not an audiophile, but after she heard them, she understood.

Signature DJ measurements - not sure of credibility of this source but the bumps between 3-5khz looks a bit scary, the one at 8hkz is a bit more subjective. I think the dip between them will help reduce a bit of sibilance. I wish they had distortion measurements too.

I quite agree with this. It has slight bass emphasis, but I didn't find it very engaging for the type of music I listen to at stock levels.

Yeah. And he didn't have a "Craigster" to urge him on, too. biggrin.gif It's really tough to drop a grand on a headphone without testing them first, but Craigster's definitely one of the guys who knows good bass. I'm sure this will be a good set of cans for you.

Wow the bass curve even looks like perfectly how I'd draw the bass curve in my "personal ideal" bass curve if I could draw how I wanted it to be, right amount boost and right amount shape centered around 80Hz and a pretty round "hill-shape". :) Too bad the highs are too boosted in relation to the mids, if the highs were more on a similar level to the mids, then it would be pretty ideal in the whole range to me.

Like so:

^ That with the yellow line in the highs would pretty much be my ideal FR curve. ^^

Yep I thought the same thing. 80 Hz is always where I xover my Subwoofers. It's a nice compromise. Not muddy, not boomy. That's almost precisely how I EQ my HE500s on the bottom end by the way... This is very encouraging. tongue_smile.gif

Side note: I'd like to see some distortion specs too, although based on some of the reviews, it certainly sounds like these can be driven to crazy volume levels without much (or any) audible distortion. My ears are very keen for distortion as that (not power) is what blows speakers. I'm very sensitive to it from my Car Stereo days. Those speakers could get very expensive to replace...wink.gif

I could totally relate. I've been down the same road numerous times, for numerous products, on numerous message boards. You are one of the Trailblazers and that's always a little nerve wracking. You really helped me though. If this works out, I'm going to owe you big time. smile.gif
