P.S.  I have a Klipsch reference subwoofer in my home theater that weighs about 75 lbs. and has a 12" driver in the front with a matching 12"  passive radiator on the back.  I love my bass.

very nice, how does it compare to the He 500?

$999 for the Sig DJ.  You may be looking at the Sig Pro.

Looks like it's for real to me. Their site is down for ordering until tomorrow evening so that gives me a little time to think about it and read some more reviews...

So Craigster... How bad will you feel if I hate them? biggrin.gif

I haven't heard the HE-500 since I need closed cans for portable and home use, but my understanding is that orthos can't deliver the punch of a dynamic driver, especially being open.  The mids on the Sig DJ are slightly recessed, but the detail and refinement is outstanding.

I'm getting kind of excited. They sound like what I've been looking for. Appreciate the advice Craig and if this works out, I'll owe you big time.  smile.gif

Best of luck.  I truly hope you enjoy them as much as I do.  Wait until you feel the leather!  What will you be using to drive them?

I'd say that's a fair characterization. I love my HE500s but they aren't really what I'd call a true Basshead 'phone. Not in the sense that we have been talking about them here, with the top five list etc. I tend to EQ mine up a bit on the bottom end and they EQ amazingly well. You can get a lot of Bass out of them cleanly and it's very well defined Bass at that. However... If you are looking for pure sound pressure and sonic WALLS of Bass like you get from Q40s and Pro 900s they don't have it.

They have really great quality Bass that extends deep and is very layered, but it won't blow your hair back like a true Basshead 'phone can.. Of course a conventional Dynamic Basshead 'phone won't give you the amazing Mids and Highs that an Ortho can either, so it's kind of a trade-off. I think it's good to have both... HE500s for refined Bass and a good quality Basshead 'phone for when you want to party down. tongue.gif

I have a Grace m903 with 2.1 Watts of clean power per channel. It's got a somewhat dark signature, so I think it should pair nicely with an Ultrasone. smile.gif

@bareyb,

damn, i really can't believe you just jumped to the $999 ultrasone signature dj w/ ethiopian sheep leather. i would taken it slower going w/ the $300 M100 first. love to hear what you thought of them.

Craig presents a very compelling argument... and so does this guy. Throw in a reputable seller with a return policy and I think they are worthy of taking a chance on.
