Good idea. I'll definitely sort out the list by the end of the week. We had a plan to sort them out by tonality and also bass quantity, but I guess that might take a little time. Still, I'll create a separate list arranged by price over the weekend.

I've got an E11 with the bass settings on 2 and EQ on an iPhone set to bass booster but the bass is weak. Does the sound change that much wearing them in or does it stay the same? I really don't know what to do here. I had two pairs of M Audio's break on me inside a month but these are no match to them. You have to turn them up to loud to get good enough bass but the treble is unbearable and those levels! :(

Edit: Just got Denons EQ app from the App Store and it makes a big difference EQ'ing the treble down. The bass is now there with authority. I think I'll have to buy a ZO amp to get some more bass out of these!

Edit 2: Wow, the bass is really strong on them EQ'ing it up, they definitely benefit some EQ'ing! :D

You've got to be kidding, right? biggrin.gif The PRO700MK2 is one of the darker headphones out there. Take a look at this measurement from Goldenears -

Source: Goldenears (PRO700MK2)

We've had a recent discussion on subjective vs objective comparisons, but in this case, like Craigster mentioned, the measurements confirm that the PRO700MK2 is a dark can, and personal experience also attest to this. I have a PRO700MK2 as well, and I think that it's really quite dark, something like the TMA-1.

Yeah, compared to this they are pretty dark headphones.

M-Audio Q40

Like you said, these headphones shine when they are amped and eq'ed properly. It shows the q40 about 2.5-4dB louder in the lower areas, so that's probably what you're hearing. You can try swapping out the earpads, and putting on either the dt250 pads or the m50 pads. For me, it noticeably raised the bass quantity because I could get a proper seal around my ears.

I  can only tell you what I'm hearing. Compared to the M Audio out of the box the treble was harsh and un-amped they would be really disappointing to me. Now they are EQ'd they sound amazing, I'd say a tab better than the Q40's. the bass is really tight and there is absolutely no distortion at all when you push up the volume. I think the Q40's amp really well out of the box and I was expecting these to be the same but they just weren't.

thag being said, they really do shine once you've had a mess around with the EQ and the build quality is excellent, I'm very impressed. Also, the clamp is slightly less but enough so there is no sound leakage meaning bass is effected. I stuffed a bit of towel paper in the cups as well to raise them a bit and they are quite comfortable now.

I just posted a review of a new amp called the iCAN, and it is turning me into a basshead. I have never heard bass this good from headphones and it is addictive:

The PRO700MK2 is like a beast waiting to be unleashed. At stock levels, it is hardly an exciting can - it's dark, has punchy bass, but there's not enough of it. Once amped/EQed, though, they really shine. Bass quantity and presence show up with some authority. They can reach near stock-XB500/700 levels without muddying up the overall sound presentation.

You can try the PRO700MK2s with the M50 pads (or something similar). Comfort is definitely increased with the better seal.

I will certainly look into the M50 pads for sure. Right now the pads are quite comfortable but yeah, there is room for improvement. Thanks!

I forgot to mention that it has a very effective bass boost which is why it is so much fun to be discovering the nether regions of my music. It seems this amp can turn almost any headphone into a bass monster.

To confirm, it is not portable since it doesn't have a battery?

That is correct. It is a desktop, but the power supply is 9V and I confirmed with Vincent at iFi (maker of the iCAN) that you can use a battery. In fact, iFi may come out with a battery pack as a companion to this unit, kind of like ALO offers the Passport for use with the Pan Am amp. Of course, the amp would still not be very portable because it is a bit bigger than most portable amps, but more transportable in that you could move away from an outlet when you wanted to.

It looks like a slightly more powerful C&C.

indeed, that's a pretty awesome can :D. Although I can get my Mad Dogs to around Stock xb 700 [ish] but the sound stage on the mad dog is a little smaller than the xb700 so the bass just becomes to much at that point. Still I think there is a pair of Pro mkII at the Winston Salem Meet so I'll get to play with em then maybe.

In addition for more sound stage and bass, my indeed G3 [$100] and my Rca Clear Top 12ua7 do JUST that for less than $259, so ;3 the iCan sounds nice but I think I can do the same for cheaper :D [don't mind me, I have not slept in like 39 hours]

Now I really would like to hear the PRO 700 MK2, as even my dt 990s muddy up the sound stage if I eq them up to xb 700 levels [well they don't muddy up the sound they just get too dark] ironically I'm not much for ALL DARK EDM any more [like I was] Still though, play with eq and try different amps if you got em.

That's what I initially thought, or at least the desktop equivalent.

It seems neat and I might enjoy it, but I'm not buying much headphone gear for a while as I focus on accumulating production gear.

Remember to bring along your E11 so you won't be disappointed. wink.gif I think I've read too many reviews of PRO700MK2 owners/users who were initially disgruntled with the performance of the PRO700MK2 at stock levels. When amped well though, they sound pretty damn good. I have a feeling that you're going to like the PRO700MK2.

You can also take a look at the mod I did with my old pros (check sig). It should serve as a good reference if you want to make them sound better.
