If I read that right, you are going SOURCE via silver LOD into ZO into C&C, which you are using to adjust volume. Right?

I always wondered if i should of gone with the M100s altho i love my Q40s. So after testing out the M100s im glad I didnt get them because i wouldnt be comfortable using them and IMO the slightly better sound wasnt worth the $200+ difference. Im sure the difference is huge to others but to me it wasnt. The saved $200 will go to an HE400 in the future.

My comment was more of a personal experience/preference than a comparison.

Oh definitely. I understood that. I just didn't want anyone to get the wrong idea since so many people do find it really comfortable. HE400 is a great next step!

Something weird I've found out. My Magni distorts faster than my E17... Edit: when I match the bass quantity on both, the magni clips while the E17 doesn't. Not sure what the problem is here, since the magni is roughly 4 times more powerful. I'm guessing the power delivery isn't all that great. I may have to return this and get an Asgard 2 or a Lyr.

EDIT: Sorry for that I that I thought it wouldn't affect you guys. I don't know how that happen though, because I just directly quote Maleovent.

Have yet heard the audio Technica ES10 but it seems pretty bassy on paper sorry if my assumption does not qualify. Btw, I don't even find the Sennheiser hd25, Amperior and momentum Bassy, I think. Quite Long since i last heard them.

After my Custom One Pro fiasco I am really happy with the M-100. Wish I had more time to enjoy them, I've been so busy with work this passed few days. triportsad.gif

Well, I'm talking to support now, and they're saying that the E17 could have a soft clip filter in it (Magni doesn't have one), which basically softens up the peaks in the sound, or Magni is overdriving my headphones. I just emailed fiio to see if that's the case. They said if I ship out my Magni, and there's nothing wrong with it, I'm going to have to pay return shipping...money grubbers. If there's nothing wrong with it, I want my money back.

I've tried my Pro700MK2 driver- clips earlier than my AD2000 driver

I've tried my AD900 driver- clips earlier than my AD2000 driver

I'm pretty confident that the buzzing sound only mainly occurs at around 50-65Hz. The frequencies lower than it are victim of it too, but you would have to boost up those frequencies more or up to volume to hear it, more than you would have to for the 50-65Hz range.

EDIT 2: I think it may be my DAC (E17 using L7 adapter). It just seems like I can't go above the E17's volume with the magni without it clipping. So maybe, when you use the E17's dock out, you're still using the amplifier (you can still adjust the gain), and that's what's limiting me, probably, hopefully. So, I'm going to buy the modi (don't know when) and see if I can fix this.

Okay, sorry for not being more specific. I have the e11 already. I'm getting a pair of DT770s. Is there any advantage of the 250 vs 80 vs 32 ohm versions? I know for car stereo you just pick the ohm load that best matches your amp for maximum power output. Is it the same story here or is there an Audible difference? Also amps im currently looking at if there is an advantage :E12, ZO2 (is the 2.3 different from the 2?), c&c bh, and then probably a magni for the house.

I felt the same with the M100 comfort, not so much painful, but real awkward due to how the cups are facing.

It takes a little while to get used to them but after like 10-15 hours of wear they become very comfy. I still get fatigued while listening to them, but only after 2 hours or so.

i disagree. i have 250 ohm dt 770s and when i was using an e11 it drove them just fine. maybe if you use a LOD youll have to use the high gain option, but i wouldnt know from personal experience. either way, when double amping from my computers headphone jack i was on the number 3 position with my e11. there are also some (or atleast one that i know of) head-fi users who use the e11 to drive 600 ohm beyers, with good results.

after having our discussion about eq techniques, im curious if you tried the other way (eqing down and turning volume up) to try and get rid of the clipping?

fatiguing you say? i hope not... im gonna order a pair in a couple of days when my salary comes in and i was rather hoping they would be less fatiguing than the dt770s. do you happen to own a pair that you can comment on as far as fatigue goes?

I didn't find the HFI 780 all that bassy either, but it does offer good sounding bass. At stock levels, it was quite different sounding from the HFI 580, which was a lot bassier. Does anybody else think that the HFI 780 is not a basshead can?

I'll add the other 3. I think they do deserve a spot from what I've read. Thanks.

Oh yeah, I totally forgot about the ES10.

I don't think that the Momentum is a basshead can at all, to be honest.

@ adamlr: Yeah, I've tried everything. I believe that when I use the L7 the E17's amp is still being used somehow, and that's limiting me on how much I can boost the bass (I've also played with the LO bypass switch on the side to no avail).  I really can't get the bass louder than what the fiio e17 is able to pump out by itself. Wherever the E17 starts clipping when I use it as a standalone dac/amp, Magni clips at the same volume level (for the bass) when I hook it up to the line out on the E17.

I broke my toslink cable, so I'm waiting for my other one to come in Thursday or Friday, so I'll see how it sounds like when I use my receiver's dac (computer->toslink->receiver->rca line out->magni). I can't believe that retail stores charge $25 for a freakin cable. I got the same thing on Amazon for like $2.
