Read the last 5 or 6 posts to see what has been discussed.  For me, the only reason I haven't already ordered the E12 is that the bass boost is too modest at +3dB.

More bass boost options is always welcome, only one setting isn't enough for me to concider, E12, maybe with 3 minimum (+2dB. + 4dB and +6dB or along those lines) after having become spoilt with ZO's 32-lvl adjustment with 0.5dB or so increments. A bass knob would also work.

Well, I put in my opinion. Let's see if feiao takes the bite. I've had good experiences with my E7 and E17. If they implement what I have in mind, they can take my money in a heartbeat.

I am a hardcore bass head - Sony XB500/700 on my ears all the time, Q40 arriving Tuesday because I always tinker and want to get more bass.   I amp up double with an E-11 pre-amping for my ZO and am shocked more "true bass heads" haven't tried double amping yet.  If they did they would never settle for less.

So that all said and my credentials as a basshead established, I have read the E-12 thread with amusement and can say I would try an E-12 for my E-11 replacement but would prefer the adjustable bass version as has been offered.

Non-bass heads don't understand our fixation with bass, but I guess I don't get non-bass heads at all.  Not wanting the bass impact bewilders me.........if u only knew what u were missing.   To each their own I guess......

I would be curious to test double amp ZO with some FiiO so yea I am slightly interested in FiiO E12 for that reason (E11 can't be used while charging so that's out of question as I only listen at my comp and just keeps the ZO plugged in and sometimes let it recharge in sake for the battery). Although with vZO2.1 + Q40 I get exactly the bass I want and don't need anymore (ZO2.1 has a bit more solid taut punch and impact in the bass than ZO2.3 while ZO2.3 is a bit softer in the impact)

The additional bass isn't what the double amping is about - its the depth of the bass, the amount of sub bass at LOW volume levels without being muddy, and the quality.

Since you have both the E-11 and ZO, charge up that E-11 and try it........I promise you it is worth it.  That said, you hook up to a PC? I'm not sure if it matters but I'm using either an iphone5 or iPad3 and hooked up via a LOD.

Let us know what you think.

Can some body some pics of an E11 and ZO double amping rig? I would like to see what they look like together.

I don't have E11, I never purchased it because of unability to use while charging. I'm not interested in subbass only, I prefer equally much midbass as subbass presence (I need good balance between them for hardstyle) but yea I also like to listen at low volumes why I need that extra bass to be satisfied. ZO2.1 + Q40 does this though, like said ZO2.1 is already bassier than ZO2.3, I have both. And yes I've tried doubleamping with 2x ZOs too and the bass became a bit overhelming. ^^

Here's the double amp setup. E-11 as the pre-amp being fed from iPhone 5 via Fiio LOD w/lightning adapter. Only thing missing from this pic is the headphones - they come out of the ZO (which, if you can't tell is the smaller of the two amps with the red light showing).  The two are attached via velcro.

My bad - thought you had an E11.  If you get a chance, try them...........it's not just the sub-bass - it is the entire spectrum of sound that is improved.

@Oregonian- nice job on the banding!

IMO, the ZO doesn't have enough juice to bring the volume for mids and highs.  This is where double-amping with the E11 comes in.  Although, the E11 with bass boost on #2 is certainly effective.  Additionally, I would only double-amp using line out as pictured above- never double amp through the headphone jack since you would actually be triple amping through the player's amp as well which causes too much degradation in sound.

Great point - I found that to be true as well.

Even double amping, it still looks to be a very portable rig. Has anyone used the E17? I want to upgrade from my E11 and the E17 would allow me to use it with both my DAP and my computer. How is the bass boost on the E17?

I recall ClieOS saying that the E17 had more "finesse" than the E11, but the E11 had more power. The E17 allows you to adjust the bass, treble, and gain +/- 12dB incrementally (the gain is 0, 6, and 12dB). I think the bass boost on my E17 is pretty good. It's able to drive the my modded AD900s pretty well, but it's missing the control and speed that you get with better amplification.

I don't have much to compare my E17 to. Just my receiver and my old E7, and it fits right between the two, leaning closer to my receiver.

I'm gonna throw it out there and mention the C&C BH is supposedly a pretty great upgrade from the E11. I don't have an E11, but E11 users in the main BH thread have said how much of an upgrade it is, and for the price. I have a BH myself, and the bass boost is pretty nice. it cleans up the signal too.

It's smaller too, and has 80 hours battery life. Once I get my ZO repaired it'll be double amped with BH.

That said the E12 is supposedly a better amp for bass texture. But it's larger and has a shorter rated battery life, making it less portable. And the bass boost (as it is now) is more modest than the BH.

For all intents and purposes, I'm going to wait on the possibility of this thread's pressure on FiiO to make a bass version of the E12 before buying one haha. And in the case of the E11, I'm going to recommend the C&C BH, as it's been reported a pretty decent upgrade from the ever popular E11.

Yes, I agree with the line out option. I have tested double amping from audio out (via my Cowon Z2), and the sound is rather muddy. Bass becomes a wall of sound with no distinct separation. Still, the best I can get from my Cowon Z2 is to EQ for lots of bass, and to amp it with the E11.

Anyway, Craigster, thanks for the heads up on the bass boost on the E12. Will have a read on that - I too am surprised to hear that the bass boost offered is quite reserved.
