The Shibuya does a better job of producing mid-bass, but the Downtowns aren't really bass shy - they just aren't bass monsters. They certainly are better at producing the low-end than say, the M50 (but most cans on the basshead list do that, anyway). Still, they definitely are a nice detailed can (for its price), and benefits quite well from amping.

What about the PRO700 MKII 53mm 50th Anniversary Edition? Any input from here? I'm about to bite.

Are they that punchy? I can't wait to get my hands on an XB800, but from what I've read myself, the bass is definitely less pronounced than with the XB500/700 and with the new generation's own XB400/600. It's more of an XB1000, where the bass is clear, tight and punchy, but quantity is lacking.

I've auditioned them twice, and I found the bass quantity to be slightly less than with the stock PRO700MK2. It sounded a little less dark, too, with a slightly better treble presence. Tried them stock out of my DAPs (Cowon Z2 and iPod Touch) without any amping.

 Interested in knowing this too.  If they punch more than the XB700 I'll buy them by Monday, will be here by Tuesday. Finally my good looking basshead cans ; )

You are paying for a gold emblem.  They are dark like the regular version, too dark for multi-genre enjoyment IMO.

Just to give you an idea how good this Kelton sub woofer in the FXZ200 is. I just got the CKS1000. The bass end is on another tier above the CKS1000 both in quality and in quantity.  Plus how refined wide deep the sound is..I am gonna say it here. These are the ultimate bass earphones. There is nothing like them.

 

You guys can talk about how deep and pounding your bass goes. But do you have a Kelton sub woofer in your ears? If not then I suggest you try one.

I strongly suggest you try out Tenso.com read what that site is about and order through Amazon Japan.  You will save something like $100 or more just by doing this. The prices on ebay is overblown. Check out the FXZ100 FXZ200 thread there are instructions on there how to order from Amazon Japan. Miow here should have his pair very soon. I am sure he will let you guys know what he hears. Nope, I have not, but like miow said, you can try the HP700. Bass quantity isn't amazing, but they are punchy, and are pretty detailed for most genres of music. They are definitely good in their price range. I prefer them over the M50 for everything.

Yeah, after burn in i noticed a signifcant bass boost on the headphones. They are very punchy, when using my 500s it feels like im lacking that punchiness that the 800s produces.
