The Basshead Club - Page 188

Someone posted a review for the X10, they say its 4x better than beats pro. I'm surprised for a celebrity endorsed headphone. But I still need the pros here to do a full review.

It may very well be better than Beats Pro as it is based on the mid-range model of Sony's new XB line.  If you wait for the actual XB line to be released, you can have the same headphone minus the tacky design and Simon Cowell's cut of the profits for just over half the price of the X10.

Did they really say 4x? I wonder how they managed to get that figure.. I mean, how is something 4x better? biggrin.gif

But yeh, I wouldn't be surprised.

Would it be better if they said 3.95 times better?  deadhorse.gif

So today for my 21st birthday, my uncle & aunt-in-law dropped off a pair of Beats Studio.  I've been here long enough to know what the majority thinks, and I've heard some of my friends' pairs before, but honestly, I can't say too many bad things about these.  First listen, they're almost as clear as my Ultrasone DJ1, except for a few minor details.  The Ultrasones sound like they have less treble & high volumes, but more bass, and the Beats are the exact opposite.  I feel it with the Beats.  I FEEL it with the Ultrasones.

Only complaint I have is they don't kick as hard and sound just a taaaaad bit muddy compared to the Ultrasones, but after today, either I like a different sound than most of the community, or I simply can't hear what they're talking about.......of course, if you've spent more than $500 on a pair of headphones, of course anything else sound like crap lol

.........OK, the Beats are a bit more harsh on the mids & highs.  OH!  And another thing, I'm listening to these on an iPod Classic 160GB with the EQ set to Acoustic......literally anything else sounds like hot garbage.  Treble Booster actually sounds nice, though.

The DJ1 must be pretty veiled then. I borrowed a friends Studios and compared them to my ATH-M50s (this was before I got the Pro700MKII). The m50s were better than the studios in every aspect outside of the removable cable. There was more body, extension, and emphasis in every part of the sound spectrum compared the the studios. You are listening to them from an iPod though, so amplification may be the reason why. The studios are made to be run from portable devices. At the time, I was using my FiiO E7, and I could definitely note the differences between the two.

Happy birthday beerchug.gif. I know what you mean about the Studios. It's like a part of the bass was sucked up by a tiny blackhole.

I've never heard those cans before...actually the DJ1 are the best pair of headphones I own.  And I don't own an amp, neither.  I also had to set a different EQ on my laptop that has (drum roll) Beats Audio.  It's almost like Beats Audio was designed specifically for these headphones, because I had to EQ the living hell out of the DJ1 for them to sound the way I want them to, but for the Beats I barely have to touch anything......matter of fact I don't think I did besides lowering the bass from 100 to 50.......literally, I had to EQ the mess out of the DJ1.

One thing is these are HORRIFIC for vocals.  I wouldn't dare to recommend them for anyone that listens to vocal-heavy genres/artists like Adele.

.. and possibly could be added the new JVC S500/S400 which while cheap are very exceptionally great at its price. Maybe there will be an expensier 50mm driver version of it in the future too, wouldn't suprise me.

Indeed too many. Usually I'd be happy with new headphones coming but now it starts feeling like it's getting way too hard to pick now. Seems like every major player out there in the business decided to release this "portable, bass emphasized with a still focus in overall quality in a stylish package"-headphone around the 200 - $400 mark which is what there is a huge demand for atm for those people who knows better to not fall into the celebrity endorsed trap.
