Thanks for the feedback.
Piercing highs? I can't stand that. That's actually one of the main reason i sold my m50's. The highs were very harsh and metallic it was really fatiguing. IMO the m50's were excellent for their price at a certain time but now way too many headphones are beating them. Heck, my $40 JVC S500's sound just as good if not better than them in some areas.

Thanks for the feedback.

Well, if you found the M50s highs piercing, yeah, those Ultrasone's are not for you... and probably a lot of them will not be good to you since most basshead cans have sharp V-shape signatures. You might want to look into V-Moda headphones which have tamed highs by design and/or some darker headphones.

I thought the M100 had a V-shaped sound signature when I listened Lindsey Stirling's Shadows with it. There aren't many basshead cans with a dark sound signature either. The AIAIAI TMA-series headphones reportedly do have this dark sound signature, but I'm not sure if they're true basshead or not and I haven't auditioned them enough to say for sure. The Aedle VK-1 definitely is dark, but 1. it's really expensive and 2. I'm not sure if it can be called basshead either even with the emphasized bass.

Dark & Bassy: V-Moda Crossfade LP1 / LP2, ATH-PRO700 MK2, Sennheiser HD6/7/8, Beats Solos, AKG K518 DJ (very midbass heavy), Logitech UE4000 / UE6000.

Those are the primary ones that pops into my mind.

Yup, M100s are V-shaped but their highs from like 2 or 3kHz to like 7kHz are purposely tamed down so they are not like the usual Pro900s or similar sounding headphones (i.e. possibility of being shrill/introducing sibilance). It doesn't necessarily has to be dark or overly warm, as long as the highs are not accentuated, I believe he would probably like them. I think the M100s do that well, just like the cheapo Panasonic RP-HTF600-S do, JVC HA-SZ2000, Monster N-Pulse, Spider PowerForce, NuForce HP800s, even the Shure SRH1540 which even though they are not "pure" basshead it delivers elevated bass enough to satisfy. Also, the new Sennheiser DJ line seems to be this way as well (i.e. elevated bass, tamed highs).

AIAIAI Young Guru (the ones I had) were indeed dark but their sub-bass was very very weak and their mid-bass was nothing to write home about. I wouldn't dare call them "basshead" material.

Ok, thank you for clarifying. Good to know that there are dark options then - I need more knowledge!

The V-Moda LP2 is pretty dark. Almost too dark for my tastes.

I would be interested but for the fact that I didn't like the M100 fit and wouldn't like the LP2. I appreciate a dark sound signature :p

I actually enjoyed a couple of bright cans. The DT770 for example, sounded great and enjoyable to me. I wasn't bothered by their treble at all. The Denon C300's are also a bit boosted in the treble but I didn't find that a problem also. It's just that in the m50's the highs were very grainy and metallic.

Btw: my Denon c300 review will be up tomorrow hopefully..

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

My mistakes and epic failures have caused me to go "all in" with everything in an attempt to balance the scales. I got a long way to go but folks are being entertained along my journey.

That kinda good Karma erased a bad one one somewhere in my past. I have so many. I can let my issues crush me or raise me up. I chose to raise up. By the time I hit the finish line the scales might be balanced. Probably not but I'm hoping for effort  points.

Re: Headphones

The enormous variety of them is only eclipsed by the amount of opinions about them.

Where to start? Well I'm a basshead from car audio so hunt for the hardest hit using the same track at the same settings for about 200 cans. Found the hardest hit by sheer luck.

If i do not buy another pair I can say for sure out of the 200ish well known to unknown cans I pushed my current set is without peer March 2014 - April 2014. I'm always welcome to suggestions but driver spec limits and potential hearing damage make going further seem unwise. .....though I'm always listening:D

nice words of inspiration Hawaii... Though I don't believe in karma. Good or bad, we all go in the ground when we die. That makes everyone equal in my eye. I'm atheist, so I don't believe anything happens when we go into the dirt. We just cease to exist. I make the best out of my life because I have a limited time to impact the world, and I want every moment to count! biggrin.gif keep strong. Do what you can...(plus, how much did that costume cost??????)

I used to rank on my friend because he actually liked cosplay and manga.

Then he reminded me that between Christmas and Halloween I got enough stuff to make a cosplay junkie blush. That's 600 bucks in masks below. The Santa Suit is 450 bucks but it's gorgeous and well made and I AM NOT INTO COSPLAY!!:D
