I will listen again. on ear is like kryptonite but I'm gonna see what the love is all about.

I owned them (past tense) for a while.  Decent portable.  Nothing more in my view.

When I was trying to find the ultimate portable for me they were part of the audition group.  Along with the M100's.  Neither made the cut.  I'll stop right there lest I incite another three pages of defensive replies.

On to more basshead stuff rather than bashing gents................

There's a sweet pair of Denon D2000's with Cocobolo cups and Alpha pads for sale on our board someone should buy............

Hope this is on topic. I was playing some sample DTS clips at home while the family was away. I've only got a 12 inch sub with a 200w amp but boy can that thing rumble. I didn't even realise it was rumbling that much as bass isn't really something you hear. My living room is at the front of the house and my kitchen is kind of at the back. A couple of empty bottles started to walk across the kitchen bench because of the bass and fell off into the floor. That put a smile on my face

Yeah they can take a lot of power as well. My he500 leaks sound like crazy and sometimes I use it as a speaker. Just turn up the volume to deafening levels and you've got a mini speaker. I've maxed the volume driving them from a 50w into 8 ohm speaker amp. The thing didn't even blink

LOL! Good.

I haven't actually read/heard much about them but I just liked the way they looked! hahaha Also, I like to try weirdo headphones nobody has listened to as well just to see if I can find a hidden gem.

Note: I haven't found a hidden gem yet... well, I do like the Spider Moonlight Studios if coupled with my Burson Soloist and the Perfect Sound Dido's which not too many people have tried (hence why I organized the tour) but other than those...

Last one I tried was this one:

http://www.amazon.com/Myth-Labs-Genesis-Headphones-Personalized/dp/B00B50CEH6

Both of the Myth Labs headphones have good reviews in amazon. I was actually amazed at the modular design and packing but sound of the Genesis at least left something to be desired. (fit as well). Will try to get the Eclipse speakers if I find a good deal on them... maybe...

I'm surprised that you haven't bought them just to have a backup for your D2000!!!!! :-p

Yeah, that was actually what attracted me to them. Both of them look very very good and well designed! If they sound as good as they look and for that low price, I don't know... it might get interesting.

And speaking of bored, I actually think I'm mostly done with buying headphones for now. In fact, when I get the ones I'm still missing home (T5Ps, LFF Enigma's and these DonScorpio ones) I will probably decide which ones will stay and which ones will go... ... it's probably going to be difficult but I guess it's time! :-p

(The only reason I ask, is that the USB DAC/AMP combo could be used with both your current laptop, and future desktop)

I've been refreshing for the past couple of hours...not realizing there were 2 new pages...*facepalm*. I did mention the HE-400s, but then I looked at the frequency response chart and it is more flat on the bass end which I'm not sure if that's what I'm looking for, if it is then that is a potential option...but it's out of my price comfort zone. I don't have a preference on open/closed and am not specifically looking for planar drivers, whatever works best for me is what I'd go with. Would a soundcard be better than the DAC/AMP? I'll be buying a more powerful AMP so I could go for a DAC/AMP combo if that would be better.

Ok, so my dad apparently got the k240's from a different vendor, so I ended up getting them today... All I can say is... Wow. Amazing.

If you don't want to spend much in that area, try looking at the Magni/Modi combo, I would personally prefer it to an internal soundcard, especially if you have two computers you might be using your headphones with - but YMMV.

Be careful about frequency response charts, only use them as a very rough estimate/guide. You'll start hearing things that just aren't there!

Especially because our ears don't actually pick up sound in a "flat" response, if something measured completely "flat" on a frequency response chart, when you listened to it, it could potentially have some serious peak at around 1K to 3K, and around 4K to 5K.

But, anyway.

So boys, what do we recommend this gentleman? His criteria:

  • No preference of open/closed back
  • Will have amplification in the near future
  • Home/desktop use
  • Over ear (Circumaural) style
  • Budget: Maximum $300, would prefer to spend $140-$220.
  • Needs to be quality, with a hard-hitting bass-drop.

What do we think?

... One of the best things about them is the texture and depth of the BASS. Lol... Act natural... They wont see through my disguise...(lol. They don't thump my head, or get as loud as my speakers(JVC's)not exactly a two in one deal... No thump, but a lot better sq and soundstage...)

I'm going to spit out my generic Q40 recommendation right off the bat to get it over and done with. Apart from that, the DT770 may float his boat if the Q40s don't and he prefers a V-shaped sound signature. There's always the ubiquitous ATH-M50 recommendation, and the Soundmagic HP100 is a far more neutral contender that many people like.

Sorry, I didn't get that. Can you explain to me what you meant please? I'm rather slow due to the jetlag which I still haven't gotten over yet.
