I noticed you mentioned the HE-400 -

  • Would you prefer open or closed back?
  • Are you specifically after planar magnetic headphones?
  • Any reason you would prefer to go a soundcard over an external DAC/AMP combo?

(The only reason I ask, is that the USB DAC/AMP combo could be used with both your current laptop, and future desktop)

@Hawaii, would be nice to hear what you have to say about a (not too) recent FOTM, the JVC HA-s500's :D They are a budget portable can that IMO can take some serious EQ abuse (40 mm CNT driver). Out of the box and un-EQ'ed they are pretty neutral with slight bass emphasis (unfortunately for us bass heads, the bass settles down quite a bit with burn in), but at least I haven't been able to EQ their bass to distortion while wearing them! I don't ask that you spend your money just to satisfy my curiosity, but if you get a chance to audition them at a store I'd love to hear what you think! (Keep in mind they are Budget cans with a big B!)

I will listen to them again.

They were over ear so not more than a curious listen for me the first time. Some of the modders have gone nuts with em'. Must be something there to keep their attention:D

Great looks is clearly a matter of opinion. Goth/Steampunk...not my thing. Seriously though...who gives a ****? Looks? You made a + point which was the 2nd most common - point about beats. They're just fashion statements<<<repeated by many a V-Moda fan btw.  Then there's the whole..I can't see these plates cuz they are on my head kinda thing. If that's not about style for others to enjoy...I dunno what is.

This is too easy to reply to. Try harder next time.
Lets see...I CLEARLY said "You get amazing built quality and sound. Great looks...Customizable Plates plates to make it YOUR headphone.
Of course to try make your reply more interesting and impressive you chose to ignore the SOUND part! How clever...

If SOUND was not the most important factor for me...then why would I be testing headphones that looks so different from each other? I couldnt care less if they look like two Hamburgers if that made them sound better. The fact that it looks good to me, is a plus, not the decisive factor. The fact that I can customize the plates is ALSO a plus. Basically the idea, since you had trouble interpreting it, was that they offer multiple features that can be of interest for many types of buyers out there. Get it now?

Well made? That shouldn't be special. I take my headphones off before I bungee jump

I take them off before I para sail

Again...really? Such a childish reply. I treat my gear with a lot of care. I do not wear them when I am playing hockey or practicing martial arts but knowing that they can take some punishment if an accident happened is a good thing. If you rather pay $300 for something that can break by a strong wind then I am glad for you.
Non of your "points" have any real merit. I expected a more valuable post from you.

I actually found his posts to be realistic. Why buy a can that is good for surviving a nuclear apocalypse? You can buy something that sounds better, and can take normal wear and tear for a lot less. Akg, sennheiser hd598, etc. These are examples. All my opinion though... Plus, a guy/girl posted these pictures of beats that they modified more extremely than anyone else I've ever seen modify cans... Look at em. I was astounded. http://www.head-fi.org/t/571839/worst-headphone-you-ever-heard/1320 yes, its in the worst headphone you've ever heard thing, so pm them as not to get them off topic.

With HM5 pads they can be configured to be over ear.  I just left the stock pads on and cobbled the HM5 pads over them.  Decent little headphone.

Again, SOUND is what made me choose them. If they were sacrificing sound for build quality then I wouldnt pick them as my favorite ones. The build quality is a plus.

Someguydude can also be a rude jerk at points, but I agree. Yes, he does have realistic views on things.

We can all be rude jerks...you were annoying the **** outta folks yesterday with your Ohm theory.

This thread... Is supposed to be about bass cans, not two grown men picking apart each others comments... Shall I start a thread? I'll name it "The Page For Rage."... An appropriate name imo.

it was kind of funny too... I state something I believed to be fact based on inference, and people picked it apart like vultures. I literally don't know a lot about specs on headphones. All I know is what I read, and what I infer. Sorry.

Also, I haven't heard the Sennheiser IE8 - but maybe that's what you're after?

White Lotus, please do report on he DN-1000s! I've listened to the Shures, and while they were fairly bassy, I found them a little boring.

I did try Westone ADV Alphas yesterday. I liked them a lot, but they didn't work at all when plugged into my Moto X. iPhone remote incompatibility?

And the ie8 has been recommended to me before, but I've never had a chance to try them. That's a big price tag for 'phones I can't sample before buying!

I cannot disagree with him. he makes sense . You?? You highlight a sentence of mine and  bold one of your own...the wrong one. Now you could care less if you had hamburgers on your head??

LOL okay in my defense. I like to make my avatar on things a picture of myself. Not like I'm posting a stream of pictures like "Me n the M100s havin a day at the club!" and posting to Instagram.

But yeah, haha, I have no problem being called a fanboy as long as I've managed to point out that my fanboyism is... MY fanboyism. I love the hell out of my M100s but if someone says they don't like them, that's fine! Holy crap that's why all these companies make their products. And the thing is, I don't have a problem with fanboyism in general, no matter what it is. I only get annoyed when "I love my X" turns into "you are dumb for having Y." That's when I'm gonna start swinging. Someone wants to say their headphones are the best thing that's ever graced their ears? Fine. They wanna criticize me for having something else? Ooookay, now we got a problem.

And you're damn right I like style. If the M100s came in a $250 model that didn't let you customize the plates and a $300 model that did... I'd buy the $300 model. No hesitation. The only difference is that it's more of an "icing on the cake" thing than a primary selling point. It's like comparing two cars and pointing out that one has heated seats. It's one reason you like that car, it's not WHY you bought it. The only irksome part is the "the M100s are not worth $300 they're overpriced style headphones" crap. To me the M100s are underpriced. Meanwhile, I wouldn't take HE-500s or RS1i's unless they were a gift. I could say they're overpriced by several hundred dollars, but the fact is that they just give a sound that I don't like. They're very GOOD at that sound, I just don't care for it whatsoever.

But anyway, this is a big post about nonsense. I'm getting tired of this board starting to fill up with arguments about the M100s. I'd rather listen to music with them than try to convince people why I like listening to music with them.

Sorry to waste your time. We went back and forth before and you were pretty honest and reasonable and stuck to your point without name calling.

I just blocked shao. Me and him...jamming up a good thread. My apologies to everybody.

You stay real bro. Folks like you make this site and the things you choose to enjoy more fun and believable. I see stuff different but can always respect another persons view if they don't hurl insults at me.

I'm a J.V.C bass fanboy. I'm a 3rd degree blackbelt in Fanboying but I know that's my thing. I tell folks they need an amp a Hip Hop dominated library and a love for overwhelming early mid stomping bass. Otherwise stay way. I think that's how you get the 3rd degree ranking....common sense and self awareness...that self and others are not the same and to never forget that.

I'm done wasting everybody's time. Thanks for showing how it's done.
