Just received a fiio l3 line out dock and tested it with my e11. The difference is HUGE! And i was skeptical. Makes me think twice about different cords effecting the sound ._.

Or... you are now getting a proper impedance Line Out level as opposed to an amplified Headphone Out level into your E11. biggrin.gif

Glad to see you.

Off Topic.

I went to see the guy who owns the Hi-Fi shop today to let him hear the JVC sz2000 with bigger cups. His English is better than he led on. I think he didn't like me? I look like a terrorist/brute type so I mighta rubbed him wrong?

I let him hear them with my test track and he just said  "Wow..WOW" and quickly removed them from his head. He said.."it's too much...it's too much"

He looked at my FiiO e12 and sells them so he let me amp some cans.

The Ultrasone ...I listened and amped several including edition 12 and think that the Pro 900 with juice are the hardest hitting of them all regardless of cost. Very tight and fast bass. I think they won't go higher because they tuned it to not interrupt the delivers of early mids. They are very nice in that sense. That's about as loud as bass can get without borking a mid freq signal and that's on purpose. For "Audiophiles" it's certainly "Cannon" worthy. I got my bass cans but they will very happily dance on the mids to blow your ear drums off.

My Ultrasone problem was looking at charts and not trusting my ears. The Pro 900 are the best Ultrasone for bassheads with amps and an affinity for low end. They are cheaper by a few hundred dollars than the ones I bought so I dug my own grave. The Hfi 580 still make me cringe though.

What does the owner of a Hi -Fi shop listen too?  Fostex th900 with custom cherry lacquered cups with cherry blossom flowers. I saw a pic on his iphone....******* gorgeous.

The Senn HD 800......well I'm not an audiophile but he is and he sells em but would never buy them. I thought they sounded like NOT audiophile cans? WTF is going on with those? Ugly as sin and sound good with certain amps only...so he said.

He recommended I buy Fostex before i lose my hearing:D

He is clueless as to why I would do that to myself.

I said ..it's a clean hit. and he said "de?" (Japanese for so what?)

Anyway, sorry for the Ultrasone bash way back. I made that mess myself and actually the best bass friendly cans are not the most expensive. It's the Pro 900 as far as Ultrasones go. No question in my book

Good to see you've come to your senses, I've seen pictures of your OG style and I'd be a little leary if you showed up in my shop as well... I'd have the "Board of Education" at the ready... Just Kidding!

Pro 900's get a pile of praise here and that would probably be the only Ultrasone I would pick up if I was getting another 'Sone.

I've heard both Signature cans, the Edition 8 and Pro900............Pro900 is the best Ultrasone can of that bunch overall, let alone bass, to me.

I was comparing the 900 to my sz directly and the sz exist on a level so off the charts nobody but crazy folks can love them. The 900 seem as far as you can go before the resonating tones of an extended low hit at high volume invade the early mids.  The sz treat the early mids like a pedo in prison. The 400-600Hz range can get abused. That's the trade off. Yeah, you can blow your head off with a clean hit but it's gonna hurt the overall response. There is NO way around that. It appears the pro 900 have found the limit and hardened it. I respect bass. The 900 are the best "Audiophile" slam. I think Denon/Fostex can go lower but neither go as hard or low as my cans.

I was listening to this an hour ago

on my Akai.....

My sz are for Hip Hop only. That is 70% of my current library so it's a good thing. If i ever get a sit down at home pair it will be like the shop owners custom th900. Fostex is in my future.

I own the hardest hitting cans I have ever heard. They are not safe. O.S.H.A would not approve.

If someone asked what the hardest hitting audiophile headphones were ...I'd say the Ultrasone 900.

Oh I haven't changed.:D

He just knows I'm not gonna do crazy stuff. I was not a happy camper to get a credit on $1200+ cans but that was my mistake not his.

I love my cans more...have a greater appreciation for the Pro 900 and cannot believe what the HD 800 give you for $1,600:blink:

The guy that owns the shop has th900 and shrugs his shoulders at the HD 800.....read into that whatever you like. Me and that dude agree on at least one thing and it's about those cans.

http://press.nokia.com/wp-content/uploads/mediaplugin/photo/1-nokia-lumia-1020-pro-highres-12.jpg here is a picture from the Lumia 1020... Tell me that isn't at least entry grade professional camera level... Plus, the HD 800's aren't as good as a lot of people make them out to be for 1600$?... O.o ... I'm not exactly surprised at this. I think of them as a name brand that sounds good, but you pay for the brand along with quality. There's kind of an attachment you get to a company if you've had good luck with them in the past, so you are more likely to stick with them when you upgrade.

What amp were you using to power the HD800?

It was a very sexy square box with a volume knob in the middle..not much else and the tubes under an acrylic/glass cover. It's the shop owners amp. I thought the amp was absolutely gorgeous..wow! Sorry I dunno what it's called. I'd like one though:D

He was using his E12 if you didn't read back a few posts, and the E12's recommended max impedance is 300 ohms. It probably wasn't the right sounding amp for the 800's, but at least we know it got enough power...

Probably the Woo Audio WA-7. It looks like this.

HD800 is a bit either you hate it or love it. I don't like it personally but I admire its technical abilities in terms of resolving power, soundstaging, details and imaging. Unlike most people on this planet today, I can appriciate things that isn't to my personal taste, that doesn't make them bad. But well if you're not a detail whore to begin with you won't understand what HD800 is about when you're not even focusing on the things it does exceptionally well! :p

For me it's a bit too cold/bright, slightly too thin and unengaging/boring/laid-back to listen to but for other audiophiles listening to for example classical and likes to examine every detail and position of instrument etc. it's one of the best alternatives out there. It's about being able to put your own preferences aside and see what the headphones do great at.

There are people who can get more satisfaction listening to a $50 headphone than HD800 and I don't find anything weird about it, similarly there are people who would find HD800 as the best headphone on the planet. That's the nature of this hobby because we got such different preferences, you have to find out what you like/prefer yourself and when you do know what kind of sound you like then it becomes easier to find what you're looking for when checking other people's reviews/feedback etc too to know where to start looking.

eww... IPHONE/IPOD USER!!!... Lol. I just don't like the IOS's closed file system, and slow chipset for its price. There are better options than either for less. I'd probably get a google nexus 5. That phone has a quad core, 2.3 GHz processor with 2 GB's of ram, and a better graphics card for 400$. IPod touch gen 5 has a dual core 0.8 GHz processor and 1 GB of ram. IPhone 5S has a dual core 1.2 GHz processor with 1 GB of ram. And they both use a lackluster, low resolution(compared to the 1080p amoled display on the nexus 5, and even the 720p amoled display on the Nokia Lumia 925.) retina display, which is a fancy marketing term for LCD. The iPhone 5s would have been good if it came out in late 2011, but for 2013 that's crap. Didn't mean to sound like I'm bashing I products, but you know...
