Unusual gear buying situations

Thread Starter

Have any of you gone through odd situations to get gear (audio or otherwise)?  A few years ago, I wanted to get a Shure srh 440.  I knew that I could get one online, but I wanted to get it faster.  I had seen one at an Inmotion store at the airport, where you can rent movies for a flight along with audio/video gear.  Unfortunately, the store was on the other side of the security checkpoint, which meant getting a boarding pass.  After calling the store, I found out that the owner was willing to let me go around the checkpoint.  After meeting the clerk at the checkpoint, he gave me a badge that I guess showed that I was allowed to skip the checkpoint and brought me to a employees-only elevator in that he had to use a key card to use it. The elevator brought you to the middle of the shopping area.  After making my purchase, he told me to just go out the regular way, which is where most of the people coming back from a flight go through. I guess the owner just wanted to make a sale rather than just sticking to procedure.

When I was in high school, I got my drivers license but could not get beer in my local strict neighborhood so I had to drive to the hood where they would sell me some beer to go. They never card you in the hood.

I paid more than the asking price for one piece of gear. I accepted the asking price, but the seller backed out. A few kind words and a little more money landed it. smily_headphones1.gif
