Connecting normal speakers to an old bose receiver

Well I have looked through the files and also googled it and before I give up I thought I'd try asking. I have had an acousti'ass 30 for about 15 years (was a gift so back off ;-). Anyways, I have always had it in the living room and honestly not really used it. I want to use it more now but would much prefer to wire up a normal set of speakers. So I would like to know 1. Can this be done 2. If so...how? And finally 3. Will it REALLY be powerful to run a half decent bookshely/standmount speaker?

If it comes to it I will sell the bose off but am really looking for a way of doing this at minimum cost and using what I have already.

Thanks

1. Yes

2. Let us know the model of the receiver

3. Things like efficiency, etc of speakers selected also a factor besides receiver characteristics ^^

Likely not.

Bose puts all sorts of wacky equalization curves into their receivers to make their lousy speakers sound better.

Hooking up speakers will apply the equalization to the new speakers, making them sound nothing like they were intended to.

If you want something fashionable while running good speakers, pick up an old B&O Beomaster for a couple hundred. B&O is decent (though overpriced), looks cool and will work with good speakers. If a receiver is OK, get a used NAD. They have understated good looks, great build quality and good performance.

Put the Bose stuff on eBay. Someone will buy it.

Hey, yomamma!

I didn't think of that!
The audiophiles on those websites will probably punish you for mentioning the 'B' word.
Good luck, man!
Cheers!

Long time no hear Eric. I would LOVE to sell it, however it was a birthday present (it was bought at a VERY reasonable price so I'm told). Anyway due to that reason I feel somewhat obliged to keep the damn thing. I wouldn't mind if it was half decent but when watching films through all I can pretty much hear is the BOOM BANG...it's terrible with speech. I would love to sell it and upgrade and will consider it but not sure if I can, hence the question.
Thanks though Eric

I agree, I once heard a movie thru a Bose system, it sounded terrible.
