My dream audiophile version of iPod Classic

Thread Starter

The new iPhone 5 will be arriving in October.

But for me, I am dreaming of the day when Apple will launch a new audiophile version of iPod Classic with the following features:

1) Ability to play high resolution audio files of up to 192kz/24-bit

2) Ablity to play FLAC and APE format without Rockboxing it

3) An excellent built-in DAC which will make external devices like the CLAS/Fostex HP-P1 redundant

4) Super big capacity of say minimum 500GB (high res files are typically 1 to 2 GB in size).  Heck, make it 1TB and SSD!

5) Super long battery life

6) Utilises a small and light charger (the current stock USB charging cable is perfect)

7) Light and not too bulky  (well, the weight and size of the current iPod Classic are acceptable)

8) An excellent amplifier stage which will suffice driving 90% of the IEMs and phones

9) Availability of balanced headphone jacks (such as 4-pin mini-XLR, the Kobiconn Iris as used by Ray Samuels etc.)

9) Fully balanced analogue output (in case an external amp is needed to drive more power-hungry phones)

10) A built-in cross-feed function which can be activated if required

12) Retailing at no more than US$800

11) Oh, and bug-free!!!

Are there any other features you'd like to see?

Hate to say it, but the rumor is the Classic will be discontinued shortly.

I'd like to see a 10 band parametric EQ with stereo width function and a return to the Wolfson audio chip. Also, I'd like to see a DAB radio and 256mb SSD. That would be my dream iPod Classic

In the future, SSD would be $0.0000001 per TB. We'll also have nuclear powered headphone amps. basshead.gif
