Need Help Playing Audio Through Seperate Devices

Thread Starter

Hi Everyone,

I have a TV setup in my office, which is connected to my laptop via hdmi cable.  I am also using a set of USB Beyerdynamic MMX 300 Headphones with my computer.

I do alot of computer work and sometimes my daughter likes to come in and watch a movie while I'm working.  What I would like to be able to do is have my headphones set as the default audio device, while getting audio to play through the hdmi cable to the TV.  I use VLC media player or Media Player Classic - Home Cinema for the movies.

Can anyone suggest ways I could set this up?

Edit:  Nevermind I figured it out.  There are options within each media player where you can set a specific audio device to play the audio.

To set your headphones as the default device, (assuming you're running Win7) right click the speaker icon in the notification area.

Select Playback devices and get...

Click/select the device you headphones are connected to and then click the Set Default box.

I haven't used VLC in ages, but I do use Media Player Classic.

So open Media Player Classic.

Click View and select Options. (Or you could just press o)

In the Playback section, select Output.

There is a drop-down list at the bottom of the window, in the Audio Renderer section.

It's here that you want to select you're hdmi device.

Then click Apply and you're good to go. It'd be wise to test it at this point (by playing a video with Media Player Classic).

If you have trouble finding the hdmi device (as I have no idea what you're device is called), return to where you looking at playback devices and (you'll want to make sure you're tv is on) right click a device and select Test.

If you're tv produces a sound, you've found the right device. You can then right click that same device.

Select properties and rename it to something that stick out so it's easier to find in Media Player Classic.

Good Luck.

Edit: Looks like I was too slow...
