LM6172 worth the cranky cmoy fix

I'm building a new desktop cmoy and i'm wondering if I should use this http://tangentsoft.net/audio/hs-opamp.html so i can use LM6172. Is the op-amp that much better that it'd be worth the extra time and money? If not any recommendation on what op-amp i should use? I like detailed balanced sound, though extra treb or bass would be fine.

What opamp are you currently using?

Well i haven't built the thing yet(or even ordered the parts) but i'd probably be using 2132, I have a portable cmoy using a radio shack chip as i burnt the 2132 and haven't ordered a new one yet.

Just curious as to why you're building a desktop CMoy now...  Why not move toward something more high performance?

Either way, why don't you just get an op-amp socket and then try a whole bunch of op-amps to see which one you like best?

By the way, my CMoy uses a 2132 and sounds "okay".  It doesn't really do anything for the sound, and I've found CMoy's don't really do much for the sound in general other than amplify them.  They don't create stark amounts of detail or soundstage.

Since I'm PIMETA v2 crazy right now, you should try one. L3000.gif

The article you're referencing isn't a recommendation, it's a first-aid kit for those that stepped out onto the bleeding edge and got cut.

I think you can guess my preference for ways to upgrade the CMoy design by looking at the designs I've chosen to commit to FR4, past and present.

Oh ok so the LM6172 isn't worth it. Also you are probably right i should step away from CMoy, it is just so simple and i have no problems with the sound. I've also never heard any other headphone focused amps.
Looks like I'm going to be studying your Pimeta v2 for a while now.
Also I have high respect for you and wish you well.
Edit: I think i have the room for the PPA so i might try that.

It will improve the sound... :-)

AD8610/20 is also one of my favorites not only because they sound good but they are also stable in the function.
