ATH A700 w/ AD700 pads.

Got my AD700 pad's today courtesy of Audio Technica. Put them on my A700's. Comfort level increased a ton. Bass isn't as punchy, sound mellowed out a lot more and sounds more well balanced imo.

I am a happy Head-Fi'er right now.

Hey epicpie just wondering how do you like the a700 pads over the ad700 pads? I have a pair of ad700s and wanted to change the pads but I want to try the a700s just not sure how they feel for long use and if they make you sweat and stuff

Cool! I did the exact same thing when I had A700s. It's so comfortable that I would often put them on even when not listening to music, haha. However, the sound of just stock AD700 pads on there is really horrible IMO. Really thin and plasticy sounding. Definitely try experimenting with phat padding it by sticking something inside the perimeter of the pads. Other people use pieces of cable and/or foam I think. I was using some strips of fabric cut out from an old sweater. You get all the bass back and fuller mids, and I think possibly better soundstage as well, but can't remember that part perfectly. It's also another huge step up in comfort. Happy listening.atsmile.gif

That really is worth a shot. Where did you buy the ad700 pads?

Go on ATs website and go to customer support email them asking to get some replacement pads for the ad700 a guy should respond and they cost like 3 bucks for a pair plus shipping

Yeah, it was pretty awesome. I'm definitely an AT fan now, don't think I'll get over it any time soon. I managed to find the email I sent them:

Me: "Hello. I recently purchased a pair of A700 headphones. I like the pads from the AD700 model better, but preferred the closed design of the A700. Do the pads from the AD700 fit the A700 as well? Is it possible for me to obtain AD700 pads and put them on my A700s? Thank you."

Response: "I can mail a set at no charge. Address? They'll fit."

Me: "Wow, fantastic! Address: __________. Thanks so much for your help!"

Maybe he was just in a good mood and I lucked out. Try to sound ingratiating, maybe subtly dissatisfied, and a little helpless and see what happens, haha.

Whoa, could you tell me the email you used? I tried contacting them using a support form, but I was told I'd have to pay 4 bucks + shipping.

Bear in mind there's no guarantee of free pads. Like I said, I might have just gotten lucky. biggrin.gif At least it's really cheap to begin with:

I know this is an old thread, but I just wanted to comment on ATs service.A while back I damaged a driver while changing out the internal wire, and shorting the top bands. I called them up to buy a new driver, and the guy said if I can do it my self its free. He sent me a new driver! Thats cool.

I just called again (a year later) for new pads, and yes, he charged me $7 total for them.
