Need some assistance on closed cans.

First post for a lurker. I'm looking at closed headphones because I share a meditation room with my wife and she doesn't want to hear anything i'm listening to (she may like it, but it's her room). I would have loved to purchase Grado's but not a possibility at this time. I'm looking for cans that will be an improve over the Sure E4. I like them, but they fatigue me with in a few songs. I want over-the-ear cans so I don't have to jam anything down my ear canal anymore. The music that I listen to is all over the board for example: Ministry of Sound: Chillout Sessions, Hans Zimmer scores, Daft Punk's Tron Legacy soundtrack. Jay-Z to Black Keys, Duran Duran, Sublime, Massive Attack, Amy Winehouse, Missy Elliot and John Coltrane, Black Eye Pea's, Clint Mansell scores and Muse. I know everything can't be covered by one can, i'm just looking for one that can cover most of my bases. My budget is about 500 to 700 dollars. Then there's the amp issue that's for another day. TIA

Below are two cans that are well made, comfortable, easy to drive due to their low impedance, and sound amazing.  Another great thing about them is that when they are amped they sound even better so it gives you a little room to grow if you decide to amp them later or use them with your home stereo.

Staying within your budget you could get one of the headphones below and a Headroom Micro Amp.  Coming to a total of $650 you would have yourself quite a little package.  I would favor the Denons if you get the amp because they respond much better to amplification.

Amp

$350

Beyerdynamic

For your budget and kind of music, look at the Beyerdynamic T70p, I believe your best choice. If you want something more portable and are willing to sacrifice a tiny bit of sound quality, the Beyerdynamic DT1350's would do the trick. The 770's are old by todays standards. Not only my opinion, but both of these cans are highly rated in Headfi. Stay away from the Denons as they leak sound and are terribly colored.

X2 on the Denon line headphones.

I have used Denons with wood cups, and the sound quality is incredible for a closed headphone.

Thanks! I'm looked up the Denon's and Beyerdynamic's. I how much better would it be to got to the D7000? I can get them close to 700 online.

GuyDebord I see you had or have the T5P's is that a worthy upgrade from the 70's? I don't mind buying 2nd hand and I've seen a few on here on sale for around my price range. I have have a 3 yr old that some how always finds himself in my stuff. So everything has a scratch or two.

Denons dont isolate! independently of producing some of the most colored and funny sounding cans in the industry (IMO), they are not what you say you need.

Yes, imo T5p's are the best closed "portable" cans in production, be advised that they are on the neutral side, which is my preference, if you like bass emphasis I suggest you stay with the t70p's.

Thanks to all. May have to look and the Beyerdynamics. WAF demands no sound leakage.
