AKG 701's?

Depends on you, there is no one size fits all option. Play around adjust to what you want if you are going to bother changing your settings.

Those changes seem pretty huge. If you plan you make those big of eq changes to an HD650, then you'd be better off with a different headphone.

Agreed. Eq tweaks should be minimal IMO.

Turn down the mid bass and the *loud* upper mids and treble. . .

If you are doing a digital EQ change and plan on making an 8 - 9dB increase at 10Hz you have better be prepared for some nasty distortion.  Anything above 5dB starts to really alter the sound in a bad way.

Heya,

This depends entirely on how your DAC handles it.

Very best,

Jesus.  If that's what you're doing it's time to buy different phones.

That's why you always bring down the main volume before doing + eq.

Use replaygain and don't EQ that much. wink.gif

The driver matching on the HD600 is step down, though. If you don't like the tone, I wouldn't recommend switching from the 650 to those. You're stepping down from a warm headphone of high technical specifications to a design that is frankly outdated and was only lauded at one time because of how bad most everything else was on the market. I would wait before getting rid of it, though. Changing the dac and amp will have a big effect on any headphone in terms of resolution and damping. I suspect whatever problems you are having with the 650 could be remedied through changing the upstream gear. You will get used to tonal issues. It's the other stuff that will compel you to start EQing, not actual response imbalances. It sounds contradictory, but in practice I find it is not.
