What SD card to use with Clip+?

Thread Starter

I have a clip+ on the way from Amazon. I'm going to use it to play FLACs I'm ripping from CDs, so it's going to run out of space pretty fast, so I need an SD card.

What's the biggest SD card the Clip+ can handle?

What's the lowest class I can go to?

What class should I get? Is there overkill going too high?

Is any of this different with Rockbox?

Thanks.

First things first, its microsd and not sd.

Second can take at least up to 32 gig.

Third not sure of speed but faster = better obviously :)

Cheers.

o___o

Wow.

I should shoot myself.

I *am* a computer person...

:S

I know that faster speed = better, but that's not necessarily true for the SD family cards. A card with a speed rating of 4 can be better than a card with a rating of 6, but the card with a rating of 2 might be worse yet work better in a particular device.

What's the lowest class I can go to? You can go as low as you want. Even the lowest class (Class 2, or 16x) will still have read speed much faster than you need for FLAC files playback

What class should I get? Is there overkill going too high? The higher class you go, the faster the writing speed you will get. The faster the writing speed, the faster files can be transfered from the PC to Clip+. That's the only major benefit for using higher class SD card. If you don't mind waiting for file transfer, you can still use a low class SD.

Is any of this different with Rockbox? No.

Where Rockbox will be useful to you will be in battery life.....it will  double your battery life if you're using FLAC.
