So maybe you should take a look into that ;)

Ad700's are like a bass light version of HD558, so i'd rather go for HD558 in his spot.

I tried the HD 598, but the thing that made me crazy from it was some bump that was pressing on the side of my ear all the time (see pic below):

So my Auzentech X-Plosion is a bad soundcard? :( I was hoping maybe it could do anything =/

edit: @ John I like trance music :) Do you like the sound quality of your K240 S? And how does the headband feal? is it heavy or does it feel lightweigth? :P
Also some ppl said the earpads "hole" for your ears to be in are a bit small? Or are they good? :)

Hmmm weird. I have the HD558's and I don't feel that bump, even though i can see it and feel it under my finger, and i have pretty big ears.

Oh, and Auzentech X-plosion is not a bad soundcard, its just not nearly as good as the king of the headphone soundcards Xonar STX, it has the best DAC section of any soundcard, and it has a more than decent amplifier inside, so it can run high impedance headphones with no problems, and it definitely has more power than entry level headphone amplifiers under 200-250 $

edit (didn't see reply above me, was typing reply when it was posted :P

I'm wondering what to do now, maybe would it be more efficient to try to add something external to my x-plosion? Since I've seen some people "chaining" amps/dac's/soundcards etc, is that possible?

The Essence STX has a surprisingly powerful amplifier. I think it can manage 7Vrms into high impedance headphones. That's enough to drive almost anything. Unfortunately the 10.7 ohm output impedance means much less power into low impedance loads, and coloration for headphones with wild impedance curves like the HD598. You don't need to know why, just trust me smile.gif

Is the Essence STX good enough to drive the beyerdynamic dt880 600ohm or would a $200-250 tube/solid state amp be better?

Thanks!

Or maybe how about http://www.ebay.com/itm/Tube-12AU7-USB-DAC-Headphone-amplifier-pre-amp-PCM2702-/120648826609?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c173afef1#ht_4823wt_1163

It looks like a really nice one but haven't been able to find any reviews :(

To be honest if you live in the netherlands your best bet is sennheiser. If you buy from www.amazon.de like me you'll get good prices on sennheiser HPs. Basically every other good brand is American or Asian. And you will pay a premium on the import. When I bought my hd650s they were 250euros and the hd600s were only 220. Sadly they are now more expensive and you'll probably have to settle for less.

Also we can get Beyerdynamic, AKG, Philips, Sony, Ultrasone.

The thing I didn't like about sennheiser is that annoying bump, it made me totally crazy =/

I'm thinking alot about the AKG's now.

The sound quality is great, nice separation, and detail; although the amount of detail can make some flaws in the original recording stand out and with trance not as much attention is usually paid to flaws in a trance recording so your results may vary. The headband is lightweight and feels great, the earpads fit my large ears with no problem other than it was kind of weird the first few times. You can go to samash, guitar center or a similar store that caries them and they might let you test them out.
