Well I used to be in HiFi,
but now nearly my ENTIRE setup has been stolen

my asl wave 8's and the waveline preamp and my crappy wharfedale speakers have been taken from me!!

so i'm going to try and rebuild
I still have my Project 6.1 turntable and Alessandro Ms1's

I don't know which way to go

but i want something good and cheap (duh) that has a phono and a headphone input.
i was thinking if i could find a modded fisher 400 but i doubt i'll find one for cheap

any other suggestions?

this has seriously been the worse day of my life. They even took my records! thank god my turntable was in for repairs!

MY RECORDS!!!!!!!!
I hope terrible things happen to whoever stole your records man.

If that happened to me, I could get most of them back but many are out of print and would be extremely difficult to find. You just don't f'k with another man's record collection.

I haven't had the pleasure of receiving a burglar in my home.
If a person of such nature and intent would come bye when I was present he'd probably fall very strangly down some (sharp) stairs.

But seriously, I understand your anger, I hope you can find some way to get over your loss, I hope you are insured? this would not replace the records but would let you buy new equipment...

Damn, that sux. Hope you're insured. Sorry to hear about your loss.

Just out of curiosity, where do you live? (not your exact address, of course.)

How many people here have been victimized?

i live in philly now
but my stuff is up in vermont

so the worst part is, i'm not even home to find out, i'll be back in vermont in a month!!!

so all i can do is wait to see if what exactly has been stolen
all that i listed is what cops told me

no it wasn't insured, I didn't even know how to go about that,

i'm in college and i wasn't expecting this type of thing in a small liberal arts school in vermont.

but uh, the post originally had to do with any reccomendations on integrated amps or receivers... is there any suggestions?

A Fisher 400 may get a little costly. You didn't say how much you wanted to spend but if you want a really good sounding amp for less than the price of a new Total Airhead, I'd recommend you find yourself a nice vintage Marantz amp/receiver. Any of the 22xx model receivers sound great. I have a 2220 and I absolutely love it. I also have a model 1060 amp. If you don't intend on listening to the radio, the 1060/1070 amps may be the way to go for you. From what I've heard, they all have an excellent phono stage. I don't listen to vinyl so I can't comment on it. I also own a Fisher 400. I got the unit cheap with a wood case at $150. The Fisher Doc kit will cost you another hundred. Not too bad, but I also bought a spare set of the VERY hard to find 7868 power tubes at $160 for 4 of them and a few different sets of the 12AX7 tubes to try out to the tune of another $150 or so. I also bought a Variac ($75), which is a good idea to have with old tube gear. It cuts the voltage back down to 110 volts and helps extend the life of the tubes. I don't have it all back together yet, but I can tell you it sounds awesome even stock. I won't make a comparison to the Marantz' until it's all back together with new parts. It wouldn't be fair. I use all of these units with my HD580's and they all drive them with authority. If this idea interests you, do a search in this forum for "vintage" or "Marantz" and you'll get a mess of info on the different units.
Good luck!!

after suffering 3 apartment burglaries I know all about apt insurance. It's about $15/month and after getting burned you get 'most' of the lost value back, minus depreciation of items stolen. Insurance probably works similarly with houses, dorm rooms, etc. Insurance is a must.

It is too bad you have a good taste in music. I wouldn't feel so bad if they were J Lo albums.

Somebody broke into my wife's car. I have 2 booklets of cd's there, about 60 of them. They stole the car stereo, but left the booklets behind. It is a good thing that the average criminal has an IQ of 45.

Sorry to hear about your loss.

The thieving B$%&ards who did this ought be strung up. It's no consolation but it's probably crack heads out make a few $ for their next fix.

It makes me so angry to hear about stuff like this. I feel for you, I really do.

Yeah,
take my amps, take my preamp and my speakers,
i mean who cares about that stuff. there is so much hifi stuff out there that i can get that is either better or just as good without any problems

but i know that i am NEVER going to find the radio release copy of three Gershwin songs by ella fitzgerald.
i mean it was a demo for cryin out loud.

ugh...thanks for all the support tho!

I really only want to spend 500 on a preamp/amp total.
Despite the lack of headphone out and phono out, i really loved my little asl's
they were so great and they were perfect for my dorm room.

I dunno, i think i'm going to hold off buying anything until i get back to vermont.
