Classical suggestions....?

Hi guys, i'm gradually building up my lossless collection and i have a pretty good cross section now of everything that i enjoy listening to but i don't really have any classical at all. The closest i have is film scores.....

Can you suggest any classical (but not too dark / brassy) that's pretty easy to get a hold of in lossless? For listening to on my HD 600s and (as of nest week) LCD-2s

Thanks in advance

Do you like the sound of violins? Or do you prefer a full orchestra?

Vivaldi - Four Seasons.

Elgar - Salut d Amour

Saint Saens - the swan (from Carnival of the animals)

Holst's Jupiter

Kreisler - Liebesfreud

Bach's double violin concerto

Debussy's Claire de Lune

Piazolla - Libertango, Oblivion

Stanley Myers' Cavatina

Rachmaninoff - Vocalise

Bach - Sheep may safely graze (Cantata BWV 208)

Massanet - Meditation from Thais

Thanks, I'll look into that next. I prefer it to be as uplifting as possible. Perhaps that's the wrong adjective for classical, I'm used to trance!

Try Mozrt's Piano Concerto 17 and 21 by Geza Anda (Elvira Madigan) you can get the CD for a bargain price and I guarantee you it will instantly become your favorite classical cd.

bigshot,

Do you like Paganini? I have Hahn (No.1),  Accardo and Kaler (No. 1 & 2). I've really been taken by Paganini's Concerto No. 1, and consider it one of my favorites for the violin.

I have the Accardo and I like it a lot. Plenty of flash and entertainment value. I posted a video of a Paganini piece in the 1900-1960s recommendation thread. Check it out and see what you think. It's always amazing to be able to see how the performer is accomplishing all those pirotechnics.

^ Absolutely, seeing the performance is a core element of the experience.

edit: the 2nd and last movement
