More treble gain available as well. OPAMPS are removable and there are many options to tailor to desired sound if one chooses. I have not strayed from the stock configuration as I am well pleased with it as is.

Sound signature I would describe as Just Louder everything else is in place as it should be.

I agree, actually. And seeing as you seem to be Audio-Technica fan, I'll take your advice :-).

Actually one of the things I like best about the XM5 - my Audio Technicas sound like Audio Technicas, Grados like Grados and on down the line. The reason I would consider the XM5 aggressive is that it can power everything I have to higher than LOUD levels, even the HD600s.

I really appreciate the advice--btw, since you are a fan of both Audio Technica and Grado, I might as well ask: which brand do you think fits better with pop music, rock music, soul, punk,  and female vocals? I have not had the opportunity to try Grados yet, so I'm really curious.

I would have to say I do prefer the Grados they do have a WOW factor to them. But as they are all open headphones I do have many occasion to use the closed headphones such as ATH A700s I am very pleased with them and they to do have some WOW moments. With the broadest range of genres going to the Grados. Best bang for the buck ATH.
