People playing music on their cellphones in public - Page 5

I see this a lot on the bus. Not stereotyping here.. but so far its only been young black men playing rap music with its usual offensive lyrics. I'm assuming they saw it in a video or something and thought they'd go all gansta on the local bus. kind of amusing in one sense, but generally bloody annoying. Some of the looks they get from the older generation are priceless. I'm tempted to pull out my droid which is ridiculously loud and give em a blast of the beatles,

Someone was doing this here in PA at a doctor office waiting room. Sooo annoying, if you want to listen to music buy headphones don't bother others!

I work in one of the worst neighborhoods in the US and alot of people do this.  It doesn't really bother me because honestly, people do other **** here that worries me more.  Drive-bys, muggings, and the like everyday.

I find it more annoying at the countless people who drive cars with stereos turned to insane levels, so much so that I feel like my ears are going to bleed and I can actually hear their cars slowly falling apart.

Here are some good folks who are getting a civil hold of the situation-

People do it here too, but it is generally done by people of with lower income.  I guess it's a statement where they want to be heard or seen.   I know a guy that is around his mid 30's and plays his music like this.  He lives, at home, make minimum income and like to flaunt status items when he can.  But sad to say he always has money problems.  I guess its like kids acting out to get noticed.  I know he has earphones, but he doesn't like to use it.  I've seen him turn up his phone's speaker, hold the phone up near his head, rock his head, and look around if anyone is looking.  Then he gives the "awww yeah" look to anyone he makes eye contact with.

Now I'm not trying to be a snob I'm a poor student myself, but I hate it when you go to a nice place to eat, and someone ruins the dinner by play music that sounds god awful because they're pushing the speaker too far.  ESP if you've saved up to go out on a nice occasion like an anniversary.  =(  Recently made one of my dinners awkward, nice japanese bbq joint.

It happens a lot here too, mainly on buses or public spaces, and as funniecow pointed out, mostly by people with lower income. I agree that it's a sort of need for attention, but it can be really bothering. I have seen a couple fights start over this.

Never seen it happen in a restaurant though, I guess it wouldn't be allowed. But then again people who can afford to eat at a restaurant tend to consider these sort of attitude to be expectable from lower income people, and they want to set themselves appart. And then there's the ones who just care abaout others. Society is a mess around here anyway.

An observation can't be racist. If all of the people playing music on the bus were black, then it's not you that's racist, that's just what you saw. Racist would be saying "black people are rude for playing music on the bus".

I see it a lot too. What annoys me is that I don't have the guts to just tell them to shut that crap up. I guess my sense of self-preservation kicks in.
