Gary hasn't visited head-fi since early april, try his website email address.

I've sent my TP1s in for repairs. Hopefully it won't take too long to get them back. My T40RPs have a nice sound but they lack the bass and isolation of the Thunderpants.

This has been a case study in how NOT to run a business and treat customers.

So just wanted to report I got my Thunderpants back and Smeggy made good on getting the rework done.  They sound fantastic and the fit and finish now meet my expectations.  Esp. pleased with the cabling work.

Such a shame the business side of things has to be so difficult.

Smeggy should hire someone as a pa or pm

His wife helps him out.

Other than the measurements that Tyll did for the Thunderpants before the DIY contest, anyone else get their newer/newish Thunderpants measured by Tyll? Just curious about measurements over a variety of TP1s.

Mine are on their way back, Tyll's had them for the last month.  I forgot to ask him for measurements - I think he digged (dug?) them though.

Yeah... dug them. Wow, I guess he really likes them if he kept them for a month. I know he liked the original ones he had as well. I'd say the LCD-2 still beats the TP1s in a fight. But they are slightly different animals so that's ok - open vs. closed. I know Smeggy had been changing the material around for the baffles and I'm wondering if that would have an effect on sound.

Has anyone claimed otherwise?  That they are essentially heavily modded-up $80 headphones and can even be considered in the ballpark is impressive.

For me and I'm sure alot of people that go closed the headphones are used to isolate the environment, open headphones aren't even a consideration.

Thanks, they look gorgeous, but unchanged?... anything changed about their anatomy? Those are Thunderpants1-MKII after all

Nope. I concur with you. They are great for what they are. I think they are overpriced a little bit. They should be no more than $400. I don't have any regrets buying them though. Nor do my co-workers. ;)

I am in that camp. I absolutely have to have the isolation, both at work and on the plane. I love the LCD-2s but they aren't even under consideration for that reason. Have been to a few Head-Fi meets and have yet to hear a closed phone that would make me what to give up my Thunderpants - not at any price.

One I would love to try though would be the closed Stax that are discontinued - but no way those would work on a plane L3000.gif
