Thunderpants (T50RP mod) Group Buy - Page 46

That might be just what I need.  I wouldn't mind a picture of the new version if you have one around.  How thick is the padding on it?  Is there a long wait time?

And here is a great travel case:

And yes that is my bag and my Thunderpants in the photos - that was the first version of the bag, I had him make a second one that had some improvements and was more compact (the dimensions listed in the web page are for the first version).

I may have a photo of the new one if you'd like to see it.

All the bags are hand made to order so you can get yours exactly how you want it.

Highly recommended

Found them.

Padding is around 1/2". I have taken this setup on around 8 plane trips with complete protection. His turnaround is around 2 weeks. My bag has an internal measurement of 5"x8.5"x12". If you are interested you can refer to the second bag he made for Seth Bradley. He is an absolute first class vendor and I am hoping to get him more exposure.

True, but that does not negate otinkyad's point about not hearing glowing reviews from new owners.  No FOTM factor with those guys, other than possibly over-skewing to the positive side due to people having never heard ortho's before.

Send one of these new ones to get measured.  Somebody!

I'm gonna amp mine properly first. If it doesn't help, then I'll send them to Tyll immediately. My new amp comes in Monday.

I didn't get my TP1s via the group buy, but did get a pair just after X-mas. I think I waited maybe about a month to get them. They were his standard build with birdseye maple cups. I had some minor communications issues but with persistence actually ended up getting my TP1s fairly quickly when compared to how you guys have been waiting.

My impressions of the sound is that they sound great. The mids are exactly as expected -- nice and neutral, but a little laid back. The treble is recessed, but not overly so. The sound stage is at times congested depending on the recording. The bass is to die for. I think they sound like what most people expect when buying TP1s. I'll have to do a more in depth listen. I've been burning in a fresh pair of ohrenholz magnum v4s as of late so they are taking up more of my time.

That's what I'm looking forward to. How many here already have modded T50RPs?

I've been in communication with Gary recently as I was considering a pair of thunderpants. He was always quick to respond for me, and said the build/ship time was about a month. He also had 3 pairs for sale on his site for immediate shipment, I'm a bit suprised people in the group buy are still waiting for their pair.

I sent payment almost 5 months ago.  No update on my build to speak of.  Time flies, lol.

Same here.  Starting to get a little concerned.  No doubt the end result will be worth it but I will seriously consider signing up for future group buys regardless of vendor.

Can any of you guys shine some light as to how the TP performs when amped by any of the following amps: Little Dot I+, O2 amp or CEntrance DACport.

Any opinions much appreciated.

Cheers

Just gonna mention that the pairing of TTVJ Slim and TP's is pretty heavenly. The TP's need something with warmth, authority, and articulation, which the Slim has in aplomb. Only issue is that it needs about 3/4 of the volume pot to be driven to a satisfying level, though the sound is much more full than, for example, my JDS labs cmoyBB v2.03. At full volume, however, the TP's would probably explode or catch fire because of the ridiculous wattage output, so it's really not even an issue. The fullness of the TTVJ's mids and the extension and lower end impact, along with the upper end sparkle, fill in everything the TP lacked, in my opinion. I even use it as a desktop amp, and in that situation it only needs about 55 percent, since the line-out signal on my DAC is louder than my LOD signal from my iPhone.
