Thunderpants (T50RP mod) Group Buy - Page 44

Oh cool.  I was wondering about that, since after looking at them again, the baffles didn't look like they had been lifted from some other set of headphones as they didn't look mass produced, and kind of looked translucent in some light.  I couldn't figure out what they were though.  The glue wasn't a complaint or anything, I just noticed it right away because the smell slapped me in the face when I opened the box.  The smell is much milder now, it got better after having them out in the open for a couple of hours.

I've tried a huge number of baffle materials trying to find that 'ideal' material that is rigid, strong, light and relatively easy to work with and the search continues. I even used Corian once and it made a huge dusty mess of my whole shop. I tried paperstone, phenolic sheet, particle board, UHMW, ABS and numerous others. My shop is part experimental graveyard.

Good stuff.  I certainly don't think that anyone would doubt that you're keeping yourself busy.  I'm a big fan of the custom carved cups that you have up on your site, by the way, especially the sabertooth tiger.

Also, I stayed up until almost 4 AM listening to my set after I got in last night, and that's making my day interesting.

Whoa - haven't checked your site in a while Gary, when did you do the dragon?

The Dragons were completed a couple of weeks ago. I really like doing the carvings and still have a couple of sets to go. One set I spent a long time doing ended up lost in the mail so I'm having to redo them. The poor guy had been waiting ages for them too. I'm sorry all this is taking longer than I anticipated. I seem to be constantly working my butt off and getting nowhere fast. I'm exhausted, frustrated and continually coming up against problems with the woods, supplies and my general lack of business experience. It's proving difficult to manage everything on my own and I don't have the most organized mind but I'm trying really hard to improve on all that.

I do have a bunch of phones pretty much ready to go though. The progress is slow on my side due to the above problems and I understand the frustrations of those waiting.

That set looks particularly awesome! Don't stress yourself out too bad smeggy...Maybe what you should do is have a stock wood that you use as the standard thunderpants for people who don't care for the wood choice that way all they have to do is choose termination and pad. You could have a bunch made in advance so that people just wanting plain TP's wouldn't have to wait. It'd make things a lot easier on you smeggs.

Do you guys with LCD-2 pads take out the plastic part in the back before you put them on the TP's?

I haven't seen much discussion of the sound quality from this batch of TPs.  Are any of the people who've received theirs ready to give listening impressions yet..?

Uhm. Well, from a quick listen over the past couple of days, I've found the mids to be a bit recessed on my pair...though that was an issue with my original T50RPs. It's a tad annoying honestly, but it could just be that my amp is having a hard time filling them in. They sound a tad "hands-cupped" if you ask me. Clarity and detail are quite fantastic though.

You've received yours already? 3 weeks?

Yeah. I wanted Sapele, which Gary already had, plus he has a bunch of pre-made baffles and dampening material prepared for stock TP's now. I have a feeling that the ebony issue is what has been plaguing a lot of the older orders.
