Thunderpants (T50RP mod) Group Buy - Page 10

Merely a query, is there any reason this is capped at 15? - I understand all the work involved and that 15 is a lot in itself, I was purely wondering redface.gif

I don't think african blackwood is on the list.

+1 Wouldn't it be cheaper to do more?  More work though ><

My first choice is African Blackwood if anyone else is interested - That's ofcourse if I get in redface.gif

~

And I'm not trying to extend from 15 because I'm not in, I'm just concerned for more the disappointment of the few that thought they were in and also counting up for Smeggy's overall gain from all the work he does - If he's prepared to take on an extra 5 or so people?

I don't know, redface.gif

Then again, you can always do more group buys at a later date (assuming smeggy is up for it.)  Having too many in one makes the wait time justin-esque and puts the screws on Gary.

[conjecture:  it would be cheaper the more people if everyone was ordering the same wood and he could order it in bulk, but as it is, where he is allowing us to order anything he can get relatively cheaply and is easily procurable in smaller sizes, there wouldn't be much difference in the profit margin.]

Hey all,

yes it's a fine balancing act I have to pull off here. Being a one man gig it is a lot of work and hours. The number cap is there simply because I'm more likely to end up in deep doo-doo if I try to commit to more than I can realistically make in a reasonable time. I'm busy rearranging my workshop, making jigs and trying to get supplies organized for orders of this size, and, as many of you know, Fostex isn't exactly great at keeping these phones stocked up well. I need to buy a ton of phones, new parts and some new tools to go faster.

Along with this group buy, I still have back orders to clear and new orders coming in outside of this buy, so I desperately need to go about this carefully so I don't end up in the ranks of the many 'crash and burn' companies we've seen here, so I ask for patience in getting these done as I have so many requests coming in, some of them quite novel, that I'm getting snowed under just trying to keep up with the mail volume. So please bear with me as this is a way bigger response than I was ever expecting and I'm still getting my head around it all. I want everyone to have phones I can be proud of and that you want.

On specific woods like Macassar ebony and blackwood, these are costly and often hard to get in quantity. I can currently get my hands on about 5 blocks of blackwood and about 3 or 4 chunks of macassar at this time, they are more expensive than the woods on the list so if you do want those, it would add probably another $20-30 to your order to cover the extra cost of the wood. I'll keep the increase to a plain cost differential. I'm not intending to fleece anyone but I will need to pass on the extra cost to you if that's the wood you want. I'm happy either was so long as I don't end up losing money on them because in my current situation I simply can't afford that. If you guys are ok with that, then we're good to go and I can reserve however many pieces I need to cover the orders.

Lastly, the initial outlay on all the supplies I need will be quite substantial so I will need firm orders in order to go ahead.

Smeggy, I would still like the Macassar Ebony with the price raise on it.  (Stating here so that I get a reserve on one of the 3 or 4 pieces.)

Me too on Macassar Ebony, that was my first request when I filled out the form last evening.  And my order on this is firm.

Fair enough Gary, like I said I was merely wondering redface.gif - I most probably don't understand the full scale of thing but I'm sure no-one wants to rush you in the whole process redface.gif

If I come off the waiting list I'm perfectly happy with paying the extra for the Blackwood - I just want to wish that everything goes smooth and well for Gary, as this is a fantastic response to one of our own members for an excellent and beautiful crafted pair of headphones. Kudos to Gary biggrin.gif

No worries my man, I can probably extend a little wiggle room. Like I say, it's mostly a concern of being able to fulfill the orders. Nothing worse than a bunch of peeved head-fi'ers on your tail tongue.gif

Awesome, I'll be checking this thread daily anyhow - and yea, but I think people will give you a lot more leeway as they know you doing it single handed and it's a great feat to make so many - redface.gif

Hey Smeggy,

I cant remember what I put down for the wood choice on the form. If we have the choice of paying a little bit extra for rare wood, may I know how much would the cost be if Ziricote was selected. If it is too expensive and too much hassle, I am opting myself in for either the African blackwood or Macassar ebony as well. (I don't think these were on the form) but I am willing to pay the little extra for the choice.biggrin.gif

Thanks.

I would still be willing to pay more for Macassar Ebony.  I think I'm 4th saying that they are willing to pay more.

I will pay the extra cost for the Macassar Ebony.
