Just ordered Woo6SE. Now I need a recommendation for cans

Hey everyone, first-time poster, long-time lurker.  After much research and deliberation, this morning I ordered myself a WooAudio 6SE.  It's supposed to ship this week, and I'm pretty excited.  So now I need a good pair of cans to go with it.  I currently own a pair of Sennheiser 555s.  I've had them for years, but I'm ready for an upgrade to match the 6SE.  My budget is less than $1k +/-.  I was originally going to get a pair of HD650s, and maybe upgrade down the road, but I figured what the hell, I'll just break the bank and get something I'll love now. People seem to love the HD800s, LCD-2s and the Beyer T1.  But I'm not sure which would be a good match for the 6SE (btw the entire 6SE vs. WA2 debate was killing me, I'm still not sure if I made the right choice).  I'm leaning towards the LCD-2 since they are the least expensive.  I listen to mostly rock music.  Thoughts?

Thanks!

So, you bought a amp before you bought a headphone that needed a amp...

You know you buy headphones, then a amp for them, right?

Forget it, just I don't understand.

LCD-2 might be a little bassy for you.

Try, K701, HD600

If you didn't already buy a amp, I would say Grado GS1000i, as it doesn't need a amp. A good DAC with a weak amp would of worked well with the GS1000i and rock.

If I recall correctly the Audio Technica Ad2000 are supposed to shine through that.

Nice! Amp before headphones. Don't worry about 6SE vs WA2. I've heard the 6SE, and any more lush, romantic, or tooby would be just wrong.

Find a used HD600 and go from there. The HD600 has a nice linear frequency response and is inoffensive all the way around. The higher end headphones start to do some amazing things, but are wonky in one way or another. Eventual component matching and tube rolling will be necessary. This will require that you know exactly what kind of sound you want and what flaws you can live with.

Heya,

With that budget, get whatever fancies you.

Or, get three or four mid-tier headphones and have a lot of fun.

I enjoy my HE-500's with rock/prog metal.

Very best,

Nothing wrong with the LCD2. I say go do it.

I'd go with the HD600's first.

I agree with this.  Excellent starting point.  Even if you add other phones, you are likely to keep the HD600's too.

If you listen to Rock and you want your music to be dynamic, fast and lively then you have made the right choice with the Woo6se.

The Woo also playes very nicely with both the LCD's and T1's so given your budget I would say go with the LCD's. No point buying cheaper phones if you can afford better ones. I had the HD650 and AKG K701 and my current phones are all in a different class.

It's like ordering a set of very nice summer performance tires then buy a car. :)

LCD2 performs better with Solid State amps.

good thing he got the amp first tho, now he has to get good cans, not to mention, its a woo 6se, a very good amp... its better than him buying a pair of t1/hd 800s and then ending up buying a cheap budget amp that bottlenecks the headphones (ie. beyer t1s with fiio e7 or something crazy like that lol :P)

I love the LCD 2s, but imo the hd800 and k701 are the best with the wa6se

I only have the WA6 but the T1 sounds wonderful with it and works with all genre of music.  The K701 also sounded good with the WA6 but it didn't do everything well like the T1.

X2 - Purrin hits the nail on the head here. HD 600 are a great combo with the 6SE.

The LCD-2 can be very good, but for me tube selection becomes more critical.
