Just a case in point.. SM3 v1 and v2 are the same. V2 uses the same drivers/configuration/crossovers but adds a different housing and replaceable cables.
Anyway, i guess it's a matter of preference. If you love luscious, smooth, in your face mids, and don't mind a sucked out treble (IMO) stick with the SM3.
If you would like to have a more balanced sound whilst still maintaining good bass weight, but with a livelier treble albeit with leaner mids, go with the JH5! The JH5 has better speed, clarity and separation too. Imaging might not be as 3D as the SM3, but it's still pretty spacious.
I prefer my JH5, if you may ask. (:

Thanks for that info. I may have overstated how I heard the SM3s, but to me, not even their luscious mids could overcome their veiled sound sig and MIA treble. I just absolutely was glad I never paid near $400+ for the SM3s, that's for sure. Could have been a fit issue, but I doubt it.
So anyway, I am with you, though I didn't find the SM3s to be all that close to the JH5s. But your description of the JH5s is dead on, in my view.
Didn't say they were close, they're quite different actually. But it's just preference i guess. To each his own.
I have the SM3 v.1 just for clarification. I also feel that the SM3 V.1 can get a little "busy" sounding at times, and lacks the separation I want.
So what sonic differences do you find between the UM Miracle and the ES5?
