Those aftermarket Denon pads don't work too well with the HE-400. Stock velours, stock pleathers with jergpad mod, and J$ work well for most people, myself included :) I use J$ for the comfort, but I hear the jergpads sound a little better.

I would like to ask if anyone could tell what's the inner hole diameter in the Hifiman velour earpad?
Or at least if it's bigger or smaller than the DT880/990 velour earpads...
And is there any difference in foam softness hardness?
Thanks!

Quote:The HiFiMAN and Beyerdynamic velours have a similar inner diameter. The Beyerdynamic pads are the softest of the two.
post #277 of 2922/18/13 at 11:27pmI would say
DT990 soft
DT770 medium
HiFiMan hard

Do you guys notice any difference in the rendition of treble and any other sonic trait between the Hifiman and Beyer velours?
post #279 of 2922/21/13 at 2:02pmIts been a while since I swapped to beyers, I don't remember any large sonic change.
Comfort was my main concern and I would not go back to stock.
The beyers have a heavily perforated driver side and the attaching rim is shorter and so does not cover the holes in the mounting ring (Ala Jerg mod)
So I would say if there is any change to the sonics it would be an improvement.

Hi guys which of the Beyerdynamic pads are recommended?
DT 990 velours or DT 770 velours, both are silver.
Thanks!
EDIT: any idea which are thicker/deeper? the Hifiman velours or the DT 990/770 velours?
Edited by conquerator2 - 2/27/13 at 3:07pmpost #282 of 2923/2/13 at 3:01pmI'm going to see how to mrspeakers 'alpha pads' sound on the HE-400 in a couple of weeks at http://www.soundconsult.nl/.
I'll post back how they sound :)
post #283 of 2925/4/13 at 4:36pmQuote:I just finished the DT990 velour pad mod for my HE-6.
The DT990 pads are much more comfortable. I notice no difference in sound initially, but will listen for a while and change back to compare.

Just a heads up:
Anyone looking for a replacement for the original HFM pads, look no further.
http://www.mp4nation.net/brainwavz-earphones/brainwavz-hm5-spare-earpad-1pc
Super comfortable and shots, does not hinder SQ at all (even a bit better to my ears than the stock)
18 bucks a pair with free shipping.
Feels like real leather, go figure.
Also, the photos really dont do them justice

Thanks for posting this conquerator2. I'm intrigued. Personally, I find the the HE-500's with verlour pads rather comfortable but if this could make them even more comfortable, at a fairly low cost, it's something to consider. Do they get warm easily though? Has anybody else tried these with Hifiman headphones?
