Audioengine A2 bass problem, owners please help! - Page 2

Certainly not a problem with the A2's range as the right speaker works perfectly fine. Just funny how we both coincidentally have a problem with the left speaker (the one with the volume knob right?)

Sounds like the left speaker has a partially damaged voice coil which means the driver is toast. Try this...very gently place your hand with fingers outstretched like a triangle and place that hand on the left driver (equidistant around the center dust cap). Very gently and evenly push in the driver...if you feel any resistance that feels like scraping and it sounds like it's grinding a little  then you have a damaged voice coil (likely from clipping the amp's output...from high volume levels).

Another possibility is a fuse that is barely hanging on (can you look inside the speaker by any chance) ? Another option could be a cooked component in the L speakers internal amp section...hard to say for certain.

Peete.

Yes I think I feel a little grinding and scraping when I push the driver in. I also opened the speaker and taped a lose wire and rearranged the foam but it didn't stop the flabby sound. Though I think it is somewhat reduced now. Thanks for the advice.

I didn't feel any grinding/scraping but before I went to the store to exchange them I opened them as well. I found that if you block off the bass slit with the gauze from the inside it really really helps. You sacrifice some bass though. I'll pick up a new pair tomorrow, and I'll let you know how they are.

So I got the new A2's in, and they exhibit the same issue. I guess it's just the design of the A2s. I downloaded a test tone pack from here http://mdf1.tripod.com/test-tones.html and the issue is most noticeable at 40hz to 60hz
