help with jriver and control panel settings

I'm going to try and make this thorough.  I have an asus xonar essence with my cans plugged directly into the amp.  I've got the feeling I'm doing something wrong or I'm not getting the max sound.  So, first this is my control panel setup::

and jriver setting:::

if you need more info let me know-any advice would be great!  I read another thread stating that if you untick "allow apps to take eclusive control" it sounds better but when I do I get an error in both jriver and foobar

If you do, you invoke the Win mixer. All audio is dithered in this case.

The main reason to use WASAPI exclusive is to avoid this.

Applying dither indeed affect sounds quality. “Better” is a matter of taste.

One I don’t share.

I see you have everything set to 48 kHz.

Most audio is 44.1 kHz.

Try 44.1 to avoid resampling

Yes, that's the way to use WASAPI.

I see you are using the Headphone DSP of JRiver.
