This is a courtesy email to inform you of the status of your order. We wanted to let you know that your order is scheduled to ship out the middle of next week. We try to keep the SPL Auditor 120 V Headphone Amplifier in stock, however, they sell very quickly. SPL orders these in directly from Germany. They expect to have yours by next week and will ship it out immediately.
These Auditors are popular!

How come nobody buys mine then? :P

It's definitely not optimized for 32 ohm loads. My Audio-Technica's do have a bit higher impedance than that, and it's impossible to use the amp unless I reduce the volume earlier in the chain.

OH?

I thought the rated power was into 32Ohm loads? I might have been wrong but I know the X-CAN line was optimized for 32Ohm loads.

Well there is a power mentioned to 32 ohms, but since it outputs such an insane power to that load, it's hard for me to call that optimized. = )

UPDATE (October 14, 2011):

Finally got the Auditor today!  It looks better than the pictures, and I like the black finish.  The all-metal casing is top notch.  I love the smoothness of the volume knob; just wanted to turn it all the time.

Using it with the Beyerdynamic T1 right now, and it sounds amazing!  The soundstage is very wide and deep.  It's much easier to hear and separate the individual instruments and vocals.  The frequency extension is very good on both ends.  Basically, I agree with all the positive things that people had to say about the Auditor and T1 pairing, and disagree with the negative things.  I do not find it thin sounding or lacking bass at all.

No complains from me, and no regrets buying the Auditor.

Questions:

How many hours should I run it for the initial burn-in?

Since the power button is in the back and it's a professional equipment, I assume it's designed to be left on at all times?  Should I do that, or turn it off during the night?

About time you got it!

There seems to be a stigma with German gear that it will be thin, bright, and bass light sounding. I don't know why but I have not encountered this on either my DAC V800 or Auditor at all. Really they want to eb as accurate as possible so why detract from the sound? It wouldn't be accurate if the mids were recessed on the amp or the treble was more forward. Studio gear has to be dead neutral and accurate, which the Auditor is.

I left it on for 8 hours a day for 4 days and it sounds better now. I wanted to leave it on sot he capacitors expanded to their proper size/shape (I believe in mechanical burn in but not speaker/headphone burn-in). I tried the Burson OPA's in it out of curiosity and they didn't change the sound at all. This is the fourth time that I found that OPA's don't do anything to the sound. Maybe they don't at all as long as they are within spec? I can see that maybe ones with specifications under the norm would sound different.

that's exactly how I hear it except its only bright with bright headphones. It does well with treble but the rest is pretty much how I hear it. Very thin, no body and almost no bass.

This is not how I hear mine. Although I am running my T1s out of a Phonitor. Should be the same except for the fancy crossfeed circuit. Since I got my T1s (about a month ago now I think) I have been in musical bliss. Bass is excellent and certainly not overstated, music is full bodied and sound stage is excellent and precise. When I do some recording my guitar comes through sounding absolutely fantastic. The amp seems to me to be extremely accurate and paired up with the T1s this combination really is just world class.

In fact I have found audio nirvana with this set up. Maybe a few years down the road when I don't have to use headphones anymore I might get speakers it's really the only upgrade I can think of now. I am listening to Tool right now and there is tons of bass, tons of body and you can just hear everything, everything is so balanced and accurate. Loving it.

What DAC do you use?

I find it odd that yu hear it that way. I did swapping between all my amps and the Auditor is the most neutral. It also has slightly more bass than my Roc (maybe from more power output??) and I know my WA3+ has more bass than both of them. I would say my X-CANV8P has enarly as much bass as my WA3+ but it's not as deep or controlled.

Not to argue with you but I don't believe the sound is thin like you said.

Now I've tried a few OPA's in mine to see if the sound can be made warmer but I have found that OPA's do nothing to the sound. Even in my DAC V800 they did nothing. Now in the Music Hall they did something but then again the stock OPA's were really bad (way under spec) so I swapped all of those for Burson OPA's.

Burson's are neutral and Auditor is neutral hence the no change in sound. I should be getting Audio GD opas on Monday or Tuesday. Zombie I use a speaker amp exclusively lately as it has so much body. Or a tube amp.
