I lent my friend my 1st gen nano a few months ago when I was first getting into head fi and I totally forgot what the 1st gen nano sounded like. How does it compare with other ipods? Ive heard it has the wolfson audio chip also :)

My iPod Nano 1G sounds awesome with Rockbox. In fact Rockbox sounds much better on my iPod Nano than it does on my Sansa Clip+ and Fuze v2 and that is with the same IEMs, and EQ settings. It must be the Wolfson chip thats doing it.

Yes, different hardware will need different EQ settings. At one point along with my rockboxed Sansas I had a rockboxed iPod Mini, and that needed totally new EQ settings...it had a lot more output power than the Sansas but the EQ was harder to get set "just right".
