Any Head-fiers at SJSU?

Just curious to see if there are any fellow Head-fiers at San Jose State University (San Jose, CA). We should organize an on-campus meet sometime this year.

I'm not at SJSU, but I live in Daly City. If this goes down, I'd like to join in on the fun.

Sup, SJSU materials science/engineering department here!

I got nothing but Grados, too lazy to drag out my source/amp equipment, somebody better bring a portable lol.. just sold my iBasso.

I guess I can show off a pair of recabled SR-60's I got to compare to the higher end ones, you guys will be pleasantly surprised. I wouldn't mind meeting up, I have no idea where though, I don't hang out on campus, I just head home right after class dismisses

I'll probably bring my Hifiman EF2A once it arrives. Still trying to see who else is interested before we set an official date/time/place. I performed some mods on my SR60s as well (new cable, new rear grilles).

Yeah, I'm not lugging my vintage receivers around. I am building an Objective2 whenever the PCBs come in for those so likely I'll have that ready by the time this meet happens. I'm ordering a Bifrost + Lyr combo whenever Schiit starts shipping the Bifrost so I can probably lug that along depending on how big it is.

As far as Grados, I'm only down to a pair of woodied 225s. I can also bring whatever else people are interested in from my signature.

Sounds like a Grado meet to me then lol..

I'd personally like to audition the K701 (and of course the LCD-2 even though I'll never be able to afford one anytime soon). Might be a challenge to find a transportable amp capable of driving the LCD-2, though the Lyr is fairly easy to transport if I remember correctly.

Actually I can get somebody to bring LCD-2's...

One of my customers lives around here and just got one, he's also got a Mini^3 so if he brings that, that might be the official amp sponsor for the meet. I could bring my HRT2 + M-Stage they're actually fairly tiny (M-Stage would be mistaken for a portable if it wasn't as long as my arm), everybody could bring a laptop to listen to their own music and it'll be cool :D

Sweet. I'm trying to figure out a place on campus that will be quiet enough to properly audition open cans. I was thinking maybe the Resident Activity Center in CVB, but I'm not sure what the reservation/use policy would be or how much it will cost. I will look into that sometime this week. If that won't be possible, do you have any other ideas?

Yep, I can bring my LCD's and K701s as well.

The LCDs respond well to lots of current, but they aren't that hard to drive. Many members here plug them directly into their iPods. My E9 drives them just fine, and it's very small and transportable -- and has 10x the power output of the Mini3. If the Objective2 gets here on time, it's only a bit bigger than a CMOY and should be plenty to drive the LCD.

It would be fun to try them out on my Hifiman EF2 once it arrives (not quite sure how it compares to the Mini3). I like how this meet is coming together smily_headphones1.gif

Hey when is this going down?

I'm not very easily available because I have small children, but I have a Q701 for anyone who wants to compare it to the K701 if I can make it.  I'd definitely like to hear everyone's Grados, since I haven't familiarized myself with the product lines.  I can also offer up a T20v2 and T50RP (probably stock for a good long while so I can really get to know it), and I just ordered the new Audio-gd DAC/amp that's got people all excited.  Plenty of juice and balanced operation for anyone who's interested.  I'll be busy terminating everything to 4-pin Neutrik in preparation.

Like Quest, I'd be driving south a bit to make the meet.  Let me know what's good.

Yes, that'd be sweet.

Q701 vs. K701, Grado comparos, and orthos showdowns (LCD vs. T20v2 vs. T50RP vs. Rastapants T50RP) should be a fun time.

Rumor is Chris got some new bling for us to play with as well. Lurk, if you got any cable needs, you really should give Chris a shout.

As far as time and place, I'm good for weeknights and most Sundays. I'm fairly booked on Saturdays until end of October so I'd have to bow out if it were scheduled then. If there is no place on campus, I can get employee rates for Holiday Inn and Crowne Plazas (~$30). Depending on how big the meet is, I can book a room or two, so we'd have a private place to set up our gear. Just throwing it out there.

Fridays work the best for me, as I don't have any classes then. I'll ask around to see if we can get a room on campus.
