I have to agree ...
But since I always map my own moral compass on to others (I know this is an impossible and bad thing, but I just can't help it cause I think everyone should think like me) ... LOL ...
If I were Beck, I'd step in and slay the Lawyers ... renounce the label (I mean, really ... does Beck even *need* a label? I think not) ... and say ... (cause it's true), ... "There will always be only one, Beck!" ... and so ... let them have their party ... nobody is gonna confuse a bent up TX country band for Beck. Just ain't gonna happen. I consider Beck a genius of sorts ... my punk rock friends berate me for it but I really love the guy ... a little less now, but I still love him.
That said ...
The dudes names really are "Beck" and "Cauthen" ... so why not describe their musical narrative, thusly? Does "Law" precede birthright?
Such a delicious can of worms.
But all of the above tripe considered?
I too agree that "Fathers of Sons" is way more provocative than Beck and Mausten ... it emotes, begs investigation and is just more generally intriguing.
So, who knows? Maybe they were trying to ride the proverbial coat tails. But even so ... if *I* were Beck? I would have welcomed giving them a lift ...
;-)
ROCK!
