Do you use some type of sound card or amp to use with your headphone?  I use my Titanium HD with X-Fi CMSS-3D enabled on headphone mode.. Un freaking believable in FPS games.. You will get similar results with other sound cards..Big sound stage.. 3D precision so precise you could probably play blind..Seriously.. Oh also. If you have EQ on your sounds.

You need to do an upside down smile eQfrown.gif .. Up the mids and highs and lower your bass end... Then you will see why I use these Samsons.. Let me know how you like em once you get em.. I have been telling guys here on Headfi for seemingly forever about how good the Samsons are in game.. Everyone says the same thing.."Try the AD700s"  Nope. These would be better in every way.

Oh and one last thing.. Those Samsons have some sibilant highs out of box.. They need some serious burn in around 200 or so and the highs mellow out and the sound signature more smooth with fuller bass..

I use a Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Professional with CMSS-3D enabled as well for my PC Gaming.  For PS3/X360, I use a Ear Force DSS Dolby Headphone Processor.  I believe I'm good on this front.  Just can't wait till tomorrow!

If I heard this sort of thing a year or so ago, I may not even have bought that pair of AD700s, which were purchased for the sole purpose of a better CMSS-3D Headphone experience (and for that purpose, they delivered). Still, all these favorable comparisons (at less cost, to boot) make me curious to find out, except I'm practically broke...after buying a new headphone setup, no less.

But for their low cost (even bundled with a large condenser mic!), it wouldn't hurt to give them a try when I do scrounge up some cash, so I can tell for myself if they really outdo the AD700s in every single category for an even lower price, even comfort. (I don't vouch for or against headphones I haven't tried on principle, though I will mention them as noteworthy models to look into when advising people on what headphones to get.)

"Tomorrow" is now three days ago. I'd like to know your thoughts. (Unless you got an unexpected shipping delay and they won't be delivered until the current tomorrow...)

LOL. I apologize for the delay, I have been on these things nonstop all weekend. I gave a little mini review in another thread a little while ago. I'll just copy and paste what I said:

"I received my SR850s on Friday and have been gaming on them all weekend. Now I don't have much experience with many different headphones, but I can tell you that they blow my Senns HD555s out of the water. Everything I was told is true. I won't bother repeating everything since it's just me regurgitating what I've heard. Just know that many prefer these over most headphones $200 and below. Heck, I now see why the Beats get killed on here. I have the Beats Studios and the Samsons are just flat out better, luckily the Beats only cost me $150. Crystal clear sound is the best description I could give. The bass is perfect. I feel I can hear all of the footsteps and fine details in First Person Shooters as well as the bass in explosions that I need. And the shocking thing is, these headphones are only $35 - $50 on most sites. It's amazing how good they sound for gaming, movies, and all genres of music. Just a very complete set of headphones."

@NamelessPFG,  Ya I got an AD700 a long time ago just because of how they were supposed to be better in games. I like the spaciousness and comfort for sure but sometimes I felt the sound was too spaced out. I don't know if that makes sense on those. And on top of that the anemic bass in games was just that anemic. I know some say this is better for FPS.. I disagree in every way.. It is the bass sounds that make your guns thump. It is the bass sounds that let you know you are in the game. While I agree that too much bass gets in the way of some sounds, that is why I have my sound eQed the way I showed earlier.. Once you try a samson Sr850 in game and then go back to the Ad700. You will understand why these are better in every way...I have over 2thousand hours online with my clan =SOC= and these are responsible for over 3 thousand dog tags I have collected..People hate me online. Hahaha.

When you have a semi open clean sound of the Samson in game you get very similar sound stage of the Ad700. Just a tad smaller but still very wide for semi closed can..Sound precision and 3D spacing is perfect. The medium porridge if you will. I will admit the Ad700 has it over the samsons in comfort but not by much. The samsons sit light on the head and is a light phone in itself...Only my Panasonic HTF600-S come close to the comfort and in game sounds..I remember the first time I tried gaming on the Samsons. It surprised me just how much more accurate..More realistic would be a better word.

Oh damn. I must know what the heck I am talking about then. Hahaha. That is awesome.. Ya they are kick ass in games in every way. .I Keep on trying out every headphone I have and these are the best I have for gaming. Oh your right about the movies too..

Listen to some Deadmou5 on these phones with a slight v eQ curve emphasizing a bit more on the bass end and it will make you smile! Guaranteed.!

It's always easier to EQ down than EQ up, that's for sure...also, seems like you're a BF:BC2 player. (Maybe BF2142, but I doubt it. What other games would make such a big deal about dogtags and multiplayer?)

I've noticed a common thread between you and MalVeauX when it comes to headphone preference: you both want bass. I'm not exactly seeking a concussion from my headphones, but the AD700s are rolled off like everyone said. I certainly would like a better idea of what "good bass" means to most people here, and especially if it can be had without compromising clarity and the rest of the spectrum. The SR850s might even make a nice complement to my Stax Lambda, which I wouldn't call bass-anemic by any means, but electrostatics aren't known for bass slam. (Yet they still do better than the AD700s there...then again, they do EVERYTHING better than the AD700s, as I'd expect of something that cost me three times the price. Clarity, imaging with CMSS-3D Headphone, comfort, a flatter response across the spectrum with less exaggerated treble and more bass-it has it all as far as I can tell.)

=SOC= Cr3m. I represent. Co founder for =SOC=  online. I encourage headfi gamers to look us up online...I am known as Cr3mOfsmYUNGuy online for BF 2142 and BC2.. We have some of the best BF players that exist that are in our clan. www.socgamers.com..  Look up our =SOC= 24/7 Oasis server for BC2.. Its always hoping and ranked in the top 50 servers for BC2 always..

The Samsons will surprise you..These have absolutely no weakness in anything so far as what is truly important for gaming with CMSs-3D on.

@Dsnuts its been a few months since your glowing praise of the Samsons, are they still the best gaming headphones?

Im thinking of buying them now, have you found any new good headhphones since then or should I order these SR850s right now?

PS: I have a Xonar DG, could you post a pic of your EQ settings that you use for gaming?

Thanks

Good question. Well yes I did find something better but it cost X6 more. MY absolute favorite for positional sound is my ATH-A900X. The cans you see for my avatar.. But does it do sound positioning X6 better? Nope.. The Samsons are a very close 2nd. and I still will recommend them. In fact if you did a blind test there is a very good chance you might prefer the samsons over my A900x.. It is that close. Try a Samson SR850.. Awesome for FPSters.
