hey guys. im looking for headphones that i can listen to my music at a comfortable level while i drum. i have a pair of skullcandy ink'd and altec lansing backbeat titaniums, but i need something more. both of these phones do a good job at isolating, but not enough becuase i have to turn them too loud and i get fatigued and a headache after listening for a bit. the two cans i found that would work

are

vic firth s1h1

cad dh100

http://www.amazon.com/CAD-Audio-DH100-Isolation-Headphones/dp/B004QTSRTM

both claim to - ~15-20 db. im looking for cans that can do the same, so theyd have to be circumaural im guessing (closed back, over the ear) and be in the same price range. everyone that reviewed both above cans said they are decently comfy and do a great job at isolating, BUT THE SOUND QUALITY IS HORRIBLE. im hoping to find a can that can do its job, and be much comfier and much higher quality audio. i have about 50 or less (always better) to spend.

on altec lansing spec sheet they claim the backbeats -16db, but i dont know how correct it is, my ink'd sound like the isolate the same amount of sound. http://www.alteclansing.com/content/ebiz/alteclansing/resources/images/sellsheet/uhp_sellsheet.pdf

also, if anyone has an experience with iems and feel they would do a better job (must be better than my backbeats, which i think sound and isolate pretty well) for around 50 or less, please feel free to list...i think thats all

thanks a lot guys, many people here have been a great help

i also read that a balanced armature, since it doesnt require air to operate will not have an opening like other iems, and will isolate even more sound. how true is this?

anyone..?

Heya, don't get hung up on the tech used (e.g. BA vs Dynamic), just go for what works.

IEMs are regularly rated at ~26dB isolation, but at $50 most of your options will use silicon tips. In my experience, their seal is a bit inconsistent--I recall having to fiddle with such IEMs until I got the fit just right, every time I wore them.

IEMs that use foam tips (such as Comply tips) will generally give you a better seal and thus consistent isolation, even while moving around.

An alternative is to get those ear mufflers (sorry if I'm using the wrong term) that drummers typically do, solely for isolation, and wear earbuds or IEMs underneath that.

thanks for the reply. and yeah the backbeat titaniums were rated at 16db..but their more expensive brother backbeat pro which have balanced armatures were rated at 26db.

and do you know anything about these or this company? do you think the sound quality will be good to great? http://www.amazon.com/CAD-Audio-DH100-Isolation-Headphones/dp/B004QTSRTM

If you need isolation, the only real good way is IEM (in-ear-monitor) with such low budget.

The majority of the forum is usually heavily focused on consumer/audiophile not special-purpose... You will have hard time finding information about drummer headphones.

damn :/ well which iems for 50 or less do you think i should get? will they be any better than my backbeat titaniums which -16db? also i can get the backbeat pros for 30 which used to sell for around 50+ im pretty sure and al is just trying to move them becuase they stopped producing the backbeat series.

i also had a pair of cx300 B which i loved, very bass heavy though. they were my only phones that broke though, so i dont plan on buying another pair. even my ink'd lasted longer than them
