I picked up Meddle and liked it over the previous CD release. Is the difference dramatic? No, however, It is noticeable. But, hey, we spend crazy money on a subtle difference between headphones and equpiment. $20 for a CD that is a bit better is a $200+ (+++ sometimes) upgrade in your rig.

I'm listening to the new remaster of Dark Side of the Moon right now through my 840s. FLAC + 100% Cue rip. Definite fidelity upgrade from the old CD I have. Sounds fantastic. I think I'll be setting aside a chunk of time tomorrow night to listen to The Wall's new remaster. These sound fantastic so far.

My versions of Meddle and Animals should be here tomorrow. I am fairly excited to hear how they sound. I doubt any conventional CD can come close to the SACD version of DSOTM I have.

Which copy of the CD did you have?

I honestly couldn't tell you, it was my Dad's first. I haven't listened to it in a while, still at his place. I'm been listening to crumby MP3s before this, the CD was the best source I can remember. This blows that away.

There are numerous and diverse comparisons over on this thread on another forum...

I must add that not all are in agreement.  I am getting Meddle, WYWH and Animals but do not have those previous remasters to compare to (just old vanilla CD's of dubious provenance).

Anybody else who's bothered by those cheap carton boxes they put those remasters (and more and more cd's) in?

the boxes are not cheap at all imo.. the quality of the pictures and the papers inside are really gorgoes.  carton boxes are way more versital and comfortable than the old thick plastic boxes.  a lot of new cds are beeing published in carton boxes.    anyway...the most important thing is that the sound is simply AMAZING!  no other way to describe it.   just like the beatles' remasters.  now we all can enjoy not only the music but also the sound.

In all honesty I don't care that much one way or the other about the digipack. Once I rip the CD it gets stashed away and I listen to the music.

True, it must be my personal preference.

Offcourse sound is the most important thing.

I got the discovery set and happy with how compact it is. The booklet is great and the cardboard sleeves takes less space than nasty plastic jewel cases. Plus, it's probably better for the environment...

Now to the sound... I am listening to The Wall, last time was maybe 10 years ago or more, what a SHOCK!!! It sounds just awesome, who said stats can't rock!

So far I have picked up Atom Heart Mother, Meddle, Animals, and The Division Bell. The only one that doesn't sound fantastic is Atom Heart Mother, although I think that is more a factor of how much the original recording can be dressed up. That being said, it doesn't sound bad, just not as good as the others. Meddle and Animals sound fantastic though. I am definitely very happy with them. I listened to a few tracks of The Division Bell last night, although it is an album I don't think I have ever listened to straight through, it also sounded very good to my ears.

I can't wait to hear the Wish You Were Here SACD next month.

I'm waiting for the WYWH Experience version that will have all the live content. The DSotM Experience's live disc is terrific.

What's cheap is the lack of antistatic inner sleeves to protect the surface of the CDs.   I've ordered a stack of 50 Japanese mini-LP inner sleeves (those come standard with them), and neatly repackaged them inside the carton cases so they don't get scratched every time they pulled out.

The DSOTM Immersion Set is definitely worth the cost.  A lot of valuable (and a few less valuable) extras are provided that gave me a new perspective on this album I thought fully understood a long time ago.  So I have preordered the WYWH set and will definitely spring for The Wall set as well next February.
