and technically, I paid $300 for a Dac and $300 for a Solid State :D so for $600 I got two awesome units! That happen to be in one Metal Case! Lucky me

Lucky you indeed!

I'm waiting for my Vali for review (gonna bug Jason @SchiitHappens (it that their handle here? I forget) -

and I'm gonna buy that damn thing - and for that price, I couldn't look at myself in the mirror if I asked

for an accommodation industry price!! LOL

Yeah I couldn't believe the musicality of that lil beauty (the Vali), especially driving my LCD-3s!!

I was thinking, these units aren't new, but a favorite of mine, and Jude's too, if StyleAudio is still

making the CAROT or the CAROT-TOPAZ amp/DACs that would also be great option. The CAROT TOPAZ

(which I lent my buddy @warrenpchi, and he likes it too) was one of my favorite little USB/toslink DAC/Hphone amp

combos for awhile!

The CEntrance DACport LX is also a great option if you only need a USB DAC.

It's got the same DAC as the DACport (w/ one of the lowest jitter measurements John Atkinson at Stereophile ever

encountered)!!

Hell I used the CAROT TOPAZ ahead of my E.A.R HP4 for awhile earlier this year!! Think of that price mismatch!

But they worked beautifully together - I loved that combo

granted I haven't heard the vali or project ember as they are both currently out of my budget, but I would imagine project ember is worth the increase in price as people have compared it favorable against schitt lyr which is $150 more & ember tube rolllsssssss like a boss.

@mikemercer & @Mshenay - great to hear you guys both love your vali :) hahah it always cute to see head-fi-ers get passionate about their gear :)

out of budget... at $120 it's... pretty in budget, non the less I don't like to talk about Bravo or Garage 127 :D, thankfully sound is only about %80 of a product... I disagree with all of the remaining 20% that the Garage 127 amps make... the open design...

but that sound MAN I bet they really do sound AWSOME :D, just hope you don't have kids... or pets... or dust... or hair... well you get the idea <3

man, I hope that doesn't happen to me. I got my bravo v3 amp on sale at $65 & got the naked ud 110v2 dac at $59. seems like i'm kinda a sucker for naked gear tho it turns out that the bravo has the cheapest tube amp you can buy & the ud 110v2 turned out to be cheaper than the hifimediy sabre u2 after calculating for S&H. I have a one-year warranty on my lil bravo baby so hopefully, i don't run into any issues. *cross my fingers*

the sexy naked UD110v2 dac! comes w/ a transparent heatshrink for protection... b/c using protection is verrry important for safe audio ;) heh

edit: if i ever get more ca$hmoney i wanna jump over to project ember. now that is a baller-status tube amp.

But not bad,  happy to hear your enjoying your tube

Have you thought of feeding your Tube Amp with a Tube dac like the Aune T1

and boy does that lil thing (Vali) blow my mind at that price.

I HATE saying that (bringing price into it) but you gotta do it sometimes!

Unfortunately I don't have a Magni - but I've heard it plenty of times - though my thoughts

would be based on first impressions if that doesn't bother ya...

I've not heard the Magni, but Solid State vs Tube arguments are pretty simmilar. Solid States match nicely with warm headphones, tubes match nice with Brighter ones. There are exceptions, and the Vali is becoming one but I can say I wasn't a huge fan of the UE6000 and vali combo... a little too warm for my tastes [although my HM801 is a WARM source so there's that]

Still Schiit offers a return policy [with a 15% restocking fee + shipping back] so you could try them both and wind up having the one you like, you'll wind up paying maybe $150 [ish] for that one you liked in the end, but knowledge is priceless! So you'd have a first hand experince at your preferance for Solid State or Tube!

I found that I prefer Solid State! And again I still find the Vali a little TO warm for some of my headphones with my hm801 as a source. Where as with those same headphones my soldid State pb1 is lovely!

but for tube amps, can't you find a darker or brighter tube to adjust for warm/bright headphones? I thought the pro of SS amps is that they are generally very neutral/uncolored vs. the pro of tube amps is that it has the unique tubey sound that you can adjust w/ different tubes.

lollylol! ... I don't think a return policy with a restocking fee + pay for your own shipping is anything to get excited about in this day & age (w/ amazon prime like services that many stores offer -> no questions refund + return shipping paid for). you can get tube/ss amps from amazon & gain that knowledge for free =P

True u have more variety with tubes... but ive found even the cleanest solid states r always a tad "brighter" even if thats precieved brightness than a tube

I love my AMB Gamma 2 made my MisterX.  The devilsound I have is also pretty good, but not as full featured as the Gamma2.  I listen through a LittleDot Mkiii tube amp and HD800 'phones

They do sound awesome. I have a kid, pets and there's hair everywhere. My Sunrise 2 is going strong for a year. The thing sounds better today than ever before. You should really attend a meet and get the chance to hear what a tube hybrid from 1217 can sound like. It's incredible.
