Ultrasone HFI-580 vs. Ultrasone PRO 550

I was wondering whats the difference between these 2 when in comes to sound quality.

Also, because I might as well throw it in too, how does the PRO 750 compare between these 2?

They are probably the same. A lot of ultrasone are like that.

But I'm not a expert on this.

wait... I think the Pro750 has a case and a few extras.

The HFI 580 has probably the strongest bass impact potential out of probably any audiophile headphone. Without EQ, it's character is aggressive and upfront. The PRO550, on the other hand, still has a good ability for bass impact but its sound is much more spacious and laid-back.

I tried the PRO750 before and I think the PRO 550 has more potential for bass impact, meaning it reacts well with bass boosting enhancements. I think most of this is due to the driver size. Ultrasone cuts down the driver sizes on their upper model headphones. The models that could get the most impactful were the HFI-580 and PRO550 for their 50mm drivers.

hmmm, if possible, could you go into farther detail on the differences between the basses?

I'm assuming the pro550 has less bass but how much less?

It's been a long time, but I still remember my experience a bit.

Without EQ, actually both headphones have similar amounts of bass.

With EQ, the HFI-580 can be MUCH more impactful. The 580 has the perfect design to really pound bass. The larger design of the PRO 550 disperses a lot of the bass impact and spreads it.

I talk about EQing a lot but these headphones can be more impactful, more detailed, and have less distortion than Monster Beats Pro headphones. Whether or not the outcome of the EQ is good or bad depends on the quality of your equalizer and how you are equalizing.

thanks!

Anyone else have anymore feedback?

Haven't heard the Pro-550 however I've heard both HFI-580 and HFI-780, the 780 is in a different league compared to the 580. If all you want is bass, then the 580 is better, then again there are better, cheaper options for that such as the Sony XB500. The HFI-780 has much better control, this means you can listen to other genres that aren't as bass heavy as electronica/rap etc.

I wonder how much more bass heavy the HFI-580 is than the HFI-680 that I had.

I found that the DJ1 here is the same as the HFI-580. It's also only $129! I remember paying quite a lot more for my HFI-680.

Wonder if the bass of the HFI-580 is better controlled than that of the M50? If it has the bass quantity of the D1100 I'll definitely pass.

EDIT: guess the HFI-580 is the same price. Oops..never realized that! Could have sworn the HFI-580 was like $200 or something.

In my unreliable opinion,

HFI-780>HFI-580>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> any Sony XB

But I still prefer the HFI-580 over the 780. The 780 isn't anything special to me. There's plenty of neutral sounding closed headphones, but very few good bass heavy ones making the HFI 580 much more special IMO.

Which one do you think would be good for someone who enjoys bass (pop, hip-hop & dance), but also likes 70s & 80s rock and also some contemporary music? HFI 580, 680 780, or PRO 550, 750?  I would mainly be using them out of my Blackberry.  Thanks
